Would you return this brake rotor to Toyota?

I ordered some OEM Tundra rotors from a Toyota dealer through Ebay. I went with OEM, which cost more than the super cheap rotors because the casting is MUCH cleaner and in my experience the rotors don't warp as easy. Anyways I got around to opening the packages and one of the rotors has a single imperfection shown in the pictures below. Would you think that this will become a weak point or hinder the overall performance/longevity of the rotor? I'm on the fence about contacting the seller to get a replacement. Just looking for insight, thanks.

Are you certain those are genuine OEM? I wouldn't trust EBAY

They came with an invoice from a Toyota dealer and in Toyota boxes. You can see how clean the casting is (minus the imperfection I'm posting about), which no other cheap rotor has. Also the seller has a great seller rating.

Yeah I'd send it back. Why not get one that isn't flawed if you can? Sometimes I wonder if this stuff ends up on eBay on that chance that someone will just grab it with the intention of putting it on someone else's vehicle = everyone is happy! Until it causes a problem in two years.

^Now that I'm looking at the other rotor it looks like where the metal was cast together they didn't line it up evenly...I'm going to see about returning both of them.

Bad day at Quality control they both should have failed

It is going to be expensive to ship them back

I'm going to file a paypal claim if I have to. I'm not paying shipping, since I didn't receive an item that I ordered. (New, non-defective, OEM rotors)

I'd first try the eBay buyers protection. I think eBay will back you up on this one. Basically, you open a "case" through eBay. Everything is "saved" as record, and you first just ask the seller to take care of expenses. If they agree, great. If not, it gets reviewed by an eBay case rep. And it affects the sellers rating regardless of outcome. So, usually a seller will just take care of it (especially when it's blatant- like your rotor imperfections). They don't want their reputation affected if they're a legitimate eBay seller. And ebay will withhold their funds. The whole thing takes like three days. Might be quicker than filing a paypal claim? Just thought I'd throw it out there.

I've already filed an Ebay claim and if they don't respond by the 17th Ebay says they will step in. I'm going to make sure to file a Paypal claim if nothing is done before the month ends because they have that 30 day policy. Step by step haha but it definitely sucks since the current brakes on my truck are pretty warped and squealing. We'll see how fast this can be resolved.

Also keep in mind that the defect is one of the cooling fins if they try to say its no issue

the way it works is, if they do not respond, you get a full refund and keep the rotors to do as you wish with them.

personally they look pretty bad and I have never seen a casting looking like its two separate castings joined together?

I wouldn't poo-poo the dealer just yet as he may have gotten them just as you see them and not known about it. if he responds I would let him send me a replacement set that he inspects before shipping or otherwise a straight full refund request. and he pays return shipping on the bad ones if he wants them back of course.

I find it odd they are boxed as a set since every rotor I ever saw was always individually boxed????

yep, ebay gives sellers like 10 days to respond and then they have 10 more days to respond to your reply after they respond if you are not happy with their reply

Thanks for the replies and heads up. They were shipped in two boxes like the one I posted, so they were individually boxed up. I'll wait and see what the response is and most likely go to Toyotaonline parts. I've ordered from them before, but they were slightly more expensive after shipping...looks like in the long run they would have been the better choice for the extra $15

Picture of both packages I received taped together:

What do you guys think, here were my replies:

"We are very sorry that we sold you such a poor looking set of rotors. Are you interested in a full refund or a discount on the items? Let us know how to proceed.

The casting imperfection is most certainly not normal. We did check the rest of the stock on the shelf and it appears that the line down the center of the radial cooling fins is normal on this particular rotor. Although, it is only evident part way around the rotor, never visible from 360 degrees."

So they're saying that pitted rotor was definitely not good, but I think they're saying that all of their stock has that line in the center of the cooling fins that looks like the rotor was cast from two separate pieces.

**Upon looking at the rotor with pitting on it, it also has that weird off centered looking casting on about 1/3 of the cooling fins as well.

    Chinese counterfeits?

I recently put some Napa (Brembo) rotors on my Corolla, and they looked a lot better than that.

I'm trying to figure this out....I don't want to order rotors from the other Toyota and have them have that same mis-casting or whatever you want to call it that covers 1/3 of the cooling vanes. I've seen Napa rotors and used them in a pinch, but they are just like the generic Chinese ones that you can order. The casting is very rough.
