So I'm getting a new house built and the kids rooms don't come with wiring for a fan but I can just use a remote switch. There are screws holding it in place. My question being. This is the light box in the room, would you hang a small fan from it as it is?

    Not enough...
No. But these things are easy to replace after the house is built. I did in mine.

There should be a 2x4 between the roof trusses and a pancake box for the electric. That bar is not strong enough for a ceiling fan.

No. But since it's exposed this is a 10 minute job to run a proper ceiling fan bar with electrical box. Any box store will have one. If it was me I would lay a 2x4 on top of the 2 joist and screw a metal electrical box to it.

Sadly my builder wouldn't let me add my own bar so I will just have to do it once I take ownership.

After inspection, before drywall, you can replace that crap with something much sturdier, like a 2x4 with the box screwed to it.

Just a thought: I never found ceiling fans to be of any use, whereas a cheap Home Depot window fan has been able to lower temps in my bedroom by 1-2 deg.

It will be simple to remedy when the builder is done. What code prevents him from doing it for you. You are his customer, he should be doing everything he can to make you happy, especially if it comes with a warranty.

Same here, we have a 16" pedestal style fan in our bedroom and we can't sleep without it. It makes a huge difference in the temperature of our bedroom whereas the ceiling fan doesn't do Jack. Before anyone asks, yes the ceiling fan is on the proper setting.

    Stock.
Agreed, but see if the box is rated for a fan.
It looks pretty similar to this except the box is a different color.

If it isnt and you have access to the attic space it would be easy to change out later or see if he'll move it over next to the truss. Then you could anchor to the truss and use the box to run the wiring into.

I would hang the box myself before the Sheetrock goes up. But in one of my rooms that did not have a fan box, I used a retrofit fan bracket from Home Depot that you don't even need to go into the attic to install. It was easy and the fan is still hanging.

? Wtf? Then have him get his electrician to do it. Makes no sense that you can't get this handled before the lid goes on.

    IMHO
ceiling fans are best to blow heat back down... to keep it warmer

but for cooler ..yeah exhaust that hot air out the window and draw cool air in
    from some other window

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
There are special fan/fixture rated boxes required for code (at least in my area). A regular pancake or metal box will not pass the code.

I would frame a 4" box in with 2"x4" between the trusses
