Wouldn’t a V8 option be nice?

I would definitely be interested in a 4.6l v8 Tacoma especially if it had 4.30 gears in it.

the v6 is more than I'll ever need and I'm satisfied... but if a 4runner can have a v8, it ought to be an option on the taco.

Wall of text incoming. It’s cool to spitball, but consider this:

OP, how much extra would you be willing to pay for a V8 if it was available? It’s essentially a $2k option for the full size domestic market...it’d likely be more expensive for a non-domestic midsize. That puts MSRP at nearly $40k - for a midsize. The GM twins, which are typically discounted much more than tacos, retail for about that with the most expensive diesel option selected. At $40k folks will begin reconsidering a midsize truck at all.

Another thing to keep in mind this forum is a fraction of a subset of all 3rd gen owners....the simple fact is for the most part, what we like/dislike/complain about is mostly irrelevant to Toyota since a ton of these trucks are sold every year. The rest of the market seems to think a somewhat efficient v6 is acceptable for the midsize market. They won’t dick over their fleet fuel economy for a truck they sell hand over fist.

Either wait for that Magnuson supercharger or hop into a full-size with a V8.

    Oh and this:
People are frustrated? Check August sales:

This forum is frustrated for sure. But total sales say otherwise.

And BOOM goes the dynamite! That’s what I’m talking about. Small V8, right transmission, ECU control, and rear end and this truck would crush the market even more than it already is EVEN with the terrible reviews and ratings it has for the midsize truck class

Same. The truck is faster than I’m willing to drive when it comes to the trails/off road out here, and on the highways I merge onto and overtake with ease and all with leftover pedal. Anything else would be unused.

870hp supercharged Toyota v8 with a supercharger - intercooler set up . factory installed transbrake would be nice in a Tacoma

Since we’re suspending reality, I’d dump a twin turbo variant 1VD-FTV into a Landcruiser 70. Either the troopy or the double cab chassis variant.

There is no way Toyota would actually do this. It would undercut their Tundra too much.

Actually a good point, but what the Tundra does not have is a 3/4 and 1 ton or a diesel option. Toyota could benefit from expanding their truck lineup

Yeah I think if they were to expand they'd bring the Hilux to the US. It would expand their midsized truck line and over a more powerful engine.

    4Runner hasn’t had a V8 since the 5th gen remodel.

They'd have to multi link the rear suspension to kill the axle wrap. Box the frame. The suspension and chassis seem taxed by the v6.
