    Amazon……

It’s bad when you can’t even trust a drain plug washer.
Amazon is getting to be more trouble than it’s worth.
Too many fakes, and I don’t want to take the time to figure out who the trusted sellers are.
I just want buy the parts, put them on and not have to worry about it.

Honestly, $3 isn’t bad when you compare it to a new engine.

You think it's bad now, wait until everyone else is out of business and the only places we have left are Amazon, Walmart and Costco

For what it's worth, the factory "skid" plate offers some cover but then again, I'm not running the Baja 1000 or doing many KoH competitions much anymore so I'm good. I do take an extra 2 minutes underneath and safety wire the control lever into its closed and locked position. I definitely do NOT worry about it between oil change intervals of the 5k I give it.

    Low probability/low risk for me.

Without a skid, yes, it's a moderate risk to flip up a rock or road debris and strike any dangling gadget on the underside of your pan. With the skid, if your oil pan still takes an impact after violating the six inches of airspace between skid and pan, a dangly valve isn't going to make a difference there.

If I remember correctly the guy hit a big chunk of ice in the road and left an oil trail into his driveway without damage. I also think it was like a Honda civic too but I could be mistaken. That was the only incident I have really ever heard of. At any rate, I've run the valves on multiple vehicles over the past ~15 years, including my BMW E36 and never had even so much as a drip.

Interesting, a 2nd Gen owner who behaves like a 3rd Gen. :boink: I'll at least give you credit for the self-flagellation.

Totally agree. When I see folks come on here and say they got such-and-such OEM part off Amazon I think to myself, "Maybe you did, maybe you didn't." :notsure:

Fellas, this is TW, where gaskets & o-rings get discarded and RTV is used on straight threads.

I changed my plugs on 2003 and 2015 to Fumoto valves. Seem to work fine and I should never have to unscrew another plug nor replace another washer! So far I really like these things!
I do carry my old plug and washer in my tool bags.

The one I’m thinking of was posted by a father whose son had the Fumoto valve installed. They had completely redone the truck, son took it off roading, clipped the Fumoto and destroyed the engine.

But agreed that it is a rare occurrence.

If you do your homework you can find Toyota dealerships who sell through Amazon. Package is shipped from dealer and not Amazon.

I think what your seeing is "Dropshipping". Anybody can make a toyota genuine parts marketplace on Amazon, have ZERO inventory, and then have dealership/s fulfill and ship the request. Pretty wild days we're living in.

Good for the guy behind the counter charging you full price for the washer. Pulling that shit is beyond disrespectful to your fellow human.
