One opinion I have is the electric vehicles like Tesla are the biggest reason rates are going up. Tesla and other high end cars are super expensive to repair. I used to handle the Tesla program at the last body shop I worked at. Similar damage between a Camry and a Tesla you can bet will be triple the cost to repair the Tesla, or more.

The ins companies look at their overall profits and adjust rates across the board accordingly. That's just imo.

I upgraded to my Taco from a 2017 Jeep Renegade Sport, basically the cheapest version of that Jeep. I actually increased my coverage on the Toyota and I pay $20 more than I was for the Jeep.

The biggest difference for me was switching my insurance from FL to ID, I was originally paying $400/Month on the Jeep and dropped it to $80 after the move.

New tactic by the insurance companies. They won’t insure your house unless the cars are bundled in the policy.

I cross shop and jump both homeowner's and auto annually.

I just noticed a highly nasty trick on homeowners though. I picked up a policy this year that had a premium several hundred lower than anyone else, yet the total coverage was over-estimated by 100k compared to anyone else.
Why is that nasty? Because the deductible for the most common things is 2% of the coverage. :(

You do realize the the number of claims for home and auto have skyrocketed in the past decade for historically unprecedented natural disasters such as firestorms, flooding, and hurricanes, right?

And that just replacing windshield glass on any modern vehicle active safety requires recalibration of that system, costing several hundred dollars more that without?

Just some thoughts. You can search for non-industry articles on this.

As a datapoint my '23 OR ins. renewed today. $1401 for 6 months with Farmers. Other cars from 2000-2010 averaged around $700 for 6 months.
Increase is 10% over 6 months ago and 18% over 12 months ago.

House ins. more than doubled since last year:
    2023: $1989/yr
    2024: $4536/yr

Title of this thread says it all !

What is glass buy back deductable? You have multiple vehicles at Farmers's, and your 23 Tacoma highest premium. You try look for other auto insurances for muli-car discount? Unless I misread post.

Yep. I haven't looked for alternatives but should. That price has several 'discounts' including multi-cars and combined with home but still seems pretty expensive considering I have no claims filed in over 15 yrs. Several neighbors have been canceled in the last year due to those companies stopping selling in the area but Farmers hasn't done that nearby yet. There is extra stuff on the cars and home like 20% over value for rebuild cost and umbrella etc. I am starting to hear it is really hard/expensive to get new policies here but need to verify that sometime. Word is USAA is accepting new customers but many companies aren't. The other word is companies are making people in the neighborhood cut back any bushes or wood fences 5' from house to renew and I'm hoping that doesn't hit me as we live by a large water body not the forest lol.

Farmers is known to be expensive, but it is worth noting when my folks' house burned in the 2017 Santa Rosa Tubbs Fire, Farmers paid out 100% of the policy amounts within 2 years of the fire. As far as we know, every other insurer paid out less than 100% (for example some neighbors got 50% and some still have lawsuits trying to get paid). Based on my folks actually having a 'good experience' with Farmers after their house fire is why I stick with their agent even though I am far from there now.

That glass buy back deductible is awesome. They pay for OEM glass replacement and my choice of shop/quote to replace windshield or any other glass. The key point is it is way cheaper than what it is worth and using it does not count as a filed claim that counts against you long term. The agent says they do that for 'safety' and I know they lose money on it with me at least. I got new windshields on 2 cars with that last year and on the 04 tacoma the year prior. I think it is well over $750 for glass and camera alignment if the windshield gets chipped on the new tacoma so I'm sure it will get used soon there too. Farmers glass buyback does have $100 deductible.

Dang I wish I would have had that. My progressive in FL covered glass. My wrangler needed glass three times in one year. When I got a new vehicle I learned they counted each one as an accident claim.

For the 23 tacoma the glass buyback is $28/6 months, but for the 04 tacoma it is $7 for 6 months.

I’d be careful with windshields- too many replacements and you’ll be denied coverage in the future. Insurance has gotten really ridiculous- a co-worker was unable to obtain a homeowner’s policy due to having filed a claim for a stolen bicycle from his garage on a previous rental policy.

    Rookie move.

You’re not supposed to ever file a claim.

You’re just supposed to pay premiums.

Rams get stolen a lot. My insurance has always been high for those trucks (used to be a dodge guy, still have an old one)
