I’m in the same boat. I traded my 23 nightshade for a 24 trailhunter, worth 30k more, and my insurance went down 300 a year.

There are certainly a lot of factors involved in insurance metrics, including the increase in disaster rates, parts cost, safety features being both costly or protective, etc. Driving habits… how many other drivers in your household…. And even how closely you listen to the agent on the phone asking the 40 000 yes no questions about coverages.

My mom bought a used TRX at auction that was essentially a recovered stolen vehicle. The only damage it had was the driver‘s door had to be rebuilt.

This is exactly the point with Farmers glass buyback. It doesn't count against you. I'm in CA where people don't use their insurance because they don't want to lose it, but the glass buyback is excluded from that tally. Exactly what is good about it.

Me and my dad have verified that multiple times with the agent as does experience.

I think double is a lot and would be a deal breaker for me if I thought about a 2024.
Smart of the OP to check that out up front and be informed. Many people don't think ahead like this but it make sense as insurance is a cost to own it.

Double the premium is a bit much. I went from a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD Limited to a 2020 Tacoma SR5 in July 2020. My rate with Erie insurance did of course go up. I was paying like $670/year for full coverage on the Jeep. The Tacoma went up to about $820/year and is now down under $800. I do bundle with homeowner insurance too.
I do shop around for other insurance every few years but only State Farm has even come close to beating Erie insurance so I've stayed for over a decade.

Wait, is that really true? My CX-9 was clobbered while I was stopped at a stop sign in north Charlotte by some asshole in a shit-brown S-10 who took the front end off my car and then ran like hell. Insurance company totaled the vehicle and long story short I'm driving a Tacoma. Personal experience checks out!

i did the right thing & called my insurance company...
Asked if I dump my 00 explorer & bought this taco, gave them the vin...
They said, $50 more a month, cool, thx...
Well few months later rates went-up another $100, so it was an extra $150 a month.
Followed-up, they said they screwed-up & rating actually changed, or an oversight, I dont remember exactly...
Nit like they were going to eat the mis-quote

All those position sensors cost $600 or more each to replace. Cameras are even more.

emailed my broker my VIN to find out what the damage will be w/ Travelers. going from a 2016 TRD Sport to a 2024 TRD Sport w/ Premium is $300 more/year for the same coverage.

Yeah you would think with more safety features an insurance company would favor that. Actually it is the exact opposite. It costs so much more now to repair these things with all the safety features that the prices go up. Well also plus the over arching issues in the insurance world / admin.

It's going to break eventually. I like to find trucks with out the sensors, easier to find on the lower priced trims. 23 and up Super Duty added 360 camers standard on STX trims. Cameras are probably good on larger vehicles and for towing. If you are accustomed to using the cameras and the camera fails can you go back to not having the cameras?

That was the way many moons ago, but now I’m not sure what insurance companies are thinking . Unless they get a certain cut if no accidents occur within a certain time.
