So does the update use Amazon music now? Not a Alexa fan but I use Amazon music only.

Then don't use modern conveniences. How do you think all of the services you get for "free" are paid for? You think Google maps, Pandora, Spotify, this website, etc are free to run?

Yes, it does. Shows up on the screen and looks good.

I do too, but I don’t agree with his political views and how he treats employees.

    That is absolutely not true.

The second statement I won't comment on.

Didn't realize there were so many "tin hatters" on this forum :duh:. You guys are gonna be pissed when you learn about toyota connected services, also while you're figuring out how to reject the update to the HU, better disconnect the radio all together, don't want those government agents :spy: tracking you via the navigation unit :poking:.

Not a tin foil hat guy but tracking has happened with OnStar. Pretty sure they have to get a warrant first nowadays but don’t quote me on that.

I think you're missing the point. The issue that I (and many others I know) have with these "free services" is that companies such as Google, Amazon, Apple and many others don't adequately and/or clearly disclose what they're doing, and how much of it they're doing. I can recognize the convenience of one of those Alexa gizmos hearing me talking about needing a new torque wrench, and then having a bunch of torque wrench listings pop up when I log in to Amazon, but if they can do that, then they can also hear other conversations. Let's say my wife and I are discussing finances; Applgooglezon could now potentially have access to sensitive financial information which I consider private and personal, or which could hurt me if disclosed...

its not exactly a "convenience" at this point, its a social necessity, good luck getting a job without an email address, and phone to check messages and communications. you can't live without being at least somewhat connected anymore. and I fully understand how "free" services work. I'm not some tech-illiterate tin-foil hat idiot. I understand that I'm the product, and I understand that everyone does this, but that doesn't make it ok. I should have some say in how much of my data and information is collected, and how its used, or at least have some protections from it happening in the first place. If there was a paid service that didn't rely on ads and data mining, I would spring for it. also many paid services, like Pandora, spotify, etc take your money for their services, and then continue to mine and collect and sell data to make even more money. Its just greed at that point.

No need to go that far, just cut the power lead to the cellular modem that they use to send data.

It worked for me this morning after I setup the Alexa App on my phone last night. I haven't tried any other features, I am not a big fan of passive listening so I will probably disable that feature (not that your phone or any other device with a microphone isn't already doing that) I mentioned Victory sliders the other day in a conversation and there were Victory ads all over the place for a couple of days after that.

You are either young, or you are completely naive. ALL your data is tracked by corporations and much of the data flow in the US is monitored by the gov't. You can choose what you want to believe, but I am not guessing. I am involved in parts of that industry. Why do you think that data is collected? Your data is sold as a commodity by corporations and used by the gov't for whatever they please as there is very little oversight.

This is true. I work on the government side and can tell you that if you have an electronic device that sends out a signal, it is being tracked. It doesn’t show your personal info but that can be looked up with authorization.

And it’s also little brother too. The state, DOT, law enforcement, etc are all tracking this stuff for different reasons.

George Orwell was right about the general idea of a surveillance society, he was mistaken about how it would be implemented. He never dreamt we would give up our privacy so easily and freely.

If you think it’s no big deal, go hang out in China for a while and see what they do with the same info.

China just put Honk Kong under the same censorship firewall and everyone in Hong Kong is freaking out right now.

Correct, but you will have to install it if you install any future update for stability, pairing, future BT standard support, etc.

You can install the update but don't have to configure Alexa.

Mine is currently updated but I didn't link Alexa to it.

I guess I am the only one that plugs in the phone and Android Auto starts and I have never used any other features on the system.

Spotify and google maps and that's it for me.

Anyone know if they will have an update for wireless AA coming down the pipe?
