I just wanted to say, I'm super impressed with how well my TRD OR protected me when I was rear ended and spun into a semi the other day.
I honestly believe if I was in any other car that was lower or smaller I would have been killed for sure. As it is I only sustained minor damage and a concussion and not even one broken bone. Nothing I can't heal up from in short order. Here's a few pics. It's such an amazingly engineered truck and I highly recommend it just for the safety factor alone. Its a real shame too because I sure loved that truck.

Fucking hell! WOW! What an amazing job the truck did. Glad you only had minor injuries. Psychologically it may be a tough road ahead tho. Take care, hopefully you find a great replacement.

Regarding your concussion; I had one three years ago when I got attacked by two very large dogs, one 150 pounds, the second 170 pounds, the smaller one bit the back of my right knee off and then pancaked me to the pavement so hard the witnesses thought I was dead due to the sound my head made when it bounced off the pavement. For the next fifteen hours or so things went downhill fast ending with the doctors telling my wife I was going through multiple organ failure and was unlikely to survive; scared the crap out her and our kids (I was in a coma and had no idea what was going on). When I came back around 30 hours after the attack I was blind, I couldn't speak (intubated), and I was bound to the hospital bed by both arms and legs; yeah, I was not a happy camper, I had no idea who I was, where I was, why I was blind and mute, and why the hell I was tied up, but I did everything I could to get the restraints off me. Needless to say that didn't go over too well with the hospital folks, so they put me into another coma, this time medically induced. The next time I woke up I was unrestrained and I could speak and see, but WOW did I have the mother of all headaches.

I told you that to tell you this; after a few weeks of recovery I visited a neurologist who gave me a piece of very sage advice:

Brains heal best when they are stimulated

Roughly 40% of brain stimulus comes from your eyes

One of the highest stimulus environments you can encounter is jogging on a wooded trail where your brain needs to quickly process surface irregularities (i.e. roots, rocks, and holes), where to place your feet, and how to keep your balance while at the same time avoiding low hanging branches and other obstructions

I started trail running that very afternoon and credit this activity to my relatively quick recovery; the only lasting effect, so far at least, is some neuropathy in my hands. Please keep us posted on your recovery.

Unfortunately at 46 years old I'll still need to commute daily to work for at least awhile longer , but I can tell you this. I've been riding motorcycles on the street for 30 years (had motorcycle permit at age 15.5) and the roads in California have become so dangerous from distracted or under the influence drivers that after this accident I have decided to no longer commute on my motorcycle. I will only ride on the occasional day off for recreation, staying away from busy highways or the city. Be safe out there and never take anything for granted.

I too gave up riding motorcycles (and road bikes) in SoCal because it’s gotten so nuts amidst the increased population, increased speed of vehicles, and the exponential growth in distracted driving because we seem to have accepted a future where our eyes are glued to screens on the dash, the phone, etc.

Heal up, and be mindful for injuries that didn’t present themselves immediately. Glad to see you made it through. That truck gave it all to keep you alive!
