Also, at the end of the day, you're going to have to sign off on the repairs, as the customer. Obviously you couldn't just refuse for no reason, but there's at least some leverage there for them to want to make sure that you're satisfied at the end of this process.

I can relate to the adrenalin mentioned by the OP. I had a very, very close call Saturday and I would probably have been totaled along with the truck. I was tooling along on a 2 lane road around 50 mph or so in this stretch. There was a line of half dozen or so cars stopped in the opposite lane, I assumed for someone turning left. Just as I was passing this line one of them near the back comes darting out head-on to me. I was close within a few car lengths and with the Grace of God had enough reaction and enough room on the right to swerve in time. I think the other guy swerved some to the right as well when he realized what he'd done.

That was enough to keep me awake the rest of the night.

I just reviewed the Itemized estimate and I'm fighting with State Farm because they want to put remanufactured headlights in after I just had them replaced under the extended warranty. and they want to put a remanufactured bumper on it.

Looking at the itemized estimate. That doesn't include any repairs they might have to do to the engine.

I can't really tell if there's damage to the engine just by looking at it. It looks like it, but I don't know where the crumble zone ends and the motor begins.

Yea its all kinda one piece now. The radiator is laying up against the block. I'm not exactly sure what is behind that.

Now I found out that my rental car is costing me $2 and change a day.

Just left the dealership bodyshop. They are going to schedule it to go into service in the next couple of days. While I was there I looked at a silver 2016 TSS toyota tacoma. I let the salesman amuse me and see what my payment would be. And I literally choked then laughed when he said $780 a month. But I got to drive it. They ride really smooth and are really quiet

    Good luck with that.
All insurance companies, at least who I have dealt with allstate, alfa and progressive. I've also had allstate for 16 years. They do what's cheaper for them, and you'll pay out of pocket for whatever you want that's more $$. This is also me not being at fault.

I have the right to put my choice of parts, within reason. But OEM parts are not unreasonable in my opinion.

As long as those aftermarket parts meet or exceed oem then you will get them unless you pay for the factory pieces.

    Either way good luck.

If you insist on OEM Parts then they will most likely come from the junkyard, if you read your policy you will find that they are allowed to use aftermarket.

I'm so over dealing with this I'm about to tell them to forget it and take the truck and go push it off a mountain.

Sorry to hear about your truck. Don't get too worked up about it, what's done is done. I know that's easier said then done, but pick a good shop, and let the process play out. On a 5 yr old truck, you probably won't get brand new parts, but if they specify LKQ parts, ask for used OEM only parts. The body shop and insurance will probably accommodate that, and you are still getting real Toyota parts. The suppliers for those parts (auto recyclers) are actually pretty good, and if they deliver crappy parts, or parts that are beat to hell, insurance cos won't do business with them for long...body shops will raise hell, and it drives the cost up.

With a good shop, used shouldn't be an issue for body panels, even if they have to paint them. Had two used doors put on a 4 yr old Honda that was hit while parked; I was torn up about it, but a good body shop painted and hung them correctly, blended the paint fine. I drove that car 10 more years - it looked good, no issues, and just my normal washing/waxing routine. All the electronics worked fine, too.

It's easy to imagine the worst, crappy ill fitting parts that don't hang right and aren't painted right. But, if that happens, your ins can exert quite a bit of leverage to get the shop to fix it. So, pick a good shop, and let it happen. Your truck may not be perfect, but 5 yr old vehicles rarely are. Good luck.

All the body pieces are being replaced with new ones Except the bumper cover. There is a $50 difference between the remanufactured one and a new one. I did get the headlights to be replaced with new OEM assemblies because I found my Invoice where there were replaced 2 weeks ago under warranty.

Went to empty all my stuff out of the truck and They had opened the hood so I started looking around and I noticed the whole engine block is torqued to the left in the front. So there is still hope it might be totaled. The body shop is going to tear it down the end of this week beginning of next week.

Looks like maybe a motor mount broke during the wreck, make sure they check them while they are repairing your truck.

What do you mean torqued to the left? Are you referring to the valve cover being sloped to the passenger side? If so that's how they come from the factory. http://www.tacomaworld.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/375902/cat/500

Its hard to tell if its torqued from front to rear.

Either way I hope for your sake that they do total it. There might be some hidden frame damage that will push it over the limit. I had an 08' (with 2000 miles at the time) that got run over by a tornado. Caused some 12k in damage and the paint was never the same. I got tired of not having the truck after 2.5 months and finally just lived with it.

The front of the block is further to the left than the back. And the block looks more to the side than normal. It's easier to see in person. Pictures don't do it justice.

If you look at the last picture. It's the easiest one to see it. It's more evident if you look at the air intake hose right before it goes into the resonator.
