I got a call yesterday afternoon from the body shop they got it torn down and have a suplimate written up. Around $1500 in additional damage. They said no frame or engine mount damage. I don't know if I believe that. I talked to State Farm tonight and they said the Estimator is going to look at it again tomorrow and will submit another estimate. If it is around $1500 that would bring the total up to around $10000. I asked what it would take to be considered totaled and the claims rep said He didn't have an exact number. But it would be around 75% of the value of the truck. According to KBB and NADA the truck was worth a little less than $15000 before the crash. So it might be a total loss.

LoL yeah he for sure doesn't want the truck back. I think that's pretty clear at this point.

OP, good luck man! Let us know how it turns out! I hope that all goes in your favor.

Well we are at $12,900 in total damage. But its still not totaled. My truck is not even worth $15000. I'm going to talk to total loss to find out why they won't just total it. They are going to replace the Wiring harness, Valve cover, and the left side of the fender support is bent. I don't see how this isn't a total loss.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with this. Ive had the rental car for 14 days and I only have coverage for 30. and I can't afford to keep it after those 30 days are up. My parents only have one vehicle and there are 5 people who work and have to be different places.

I wonder if its because its financed, and they need more justification for the bank to cover the Gap Insurance.

Even If they were going by the finance amount it would be more than 75% of the value. I'm on the phone right now and no one will give me a strait answer of what the truck is being valued at.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread that one of the downsides of Tacoma ownership having such high resale values is that they rarely total these trucks unless they are totally demolished. I really hope everything works out for the OP.

Looks like I'm gonna be on the phone all day again today trying to figure out why the truck is not being totaled. I know its fixable but is it worth fixing.

Depends on your finance rate and the total value after the truck is paid off. That could equate to north of 19k when all said and done. Technically speaking you have no say in whether it gets totaled or not since you own nothing of it (as you said you have not made a single payment yet), the bank is the owner. You will still "owe" money regardless since you signed the contract. might be time to review your finance contract, too.

It will never be "good as new" but with a reputable shop they can make it seem close. In a way your frustration and thoughts are giving you a "blind eye" to the possibility of a good restored vehicle. used parts are what you will get since they will be cheaper. the insurance company will look around once the final parts list is in and determine the value of repair off of that. my mom hit a deer last November with her '07 Corolla. had close to 4k in damage and the value was only around 5-6k max due to the 145k+ mileage. they didn't total it. but we got the list of the used parts and were able to save a few more dollars by locating some ourselves.

it is a sucky situation but one that you will have to endure :(

If it's totaled, you won't be happy with what they give you for it. Might be better to have fixed then sell.

I did this to my Camry before I bought my Tacoma... traffic driving normal, looked in my mirrors, looked back in front of me, traffic at a stop.. couldn't get my Camry stopped in time before hitting a lifted Cherokee... total damage was $15K due to electronics and touching the frame so it was totaled out.

    camry crash.jpg

Was able to drive it home that day, and drive it to the collision center the next morning with very few issues, but they still totaled it

I've already decided that one way or another I'm not keeping the truck.
