Yes, and then lowball you based on cheap aftermarket parts and doesn’t account for hidden damage. Insurance ended up paying 3x what they cut a check for to repair my car, plus me a rental while my car was in the shop. That’s why a Toyota collision center is your best bet.

Shit That's the perfect crash! No airbags or glass breakage etc....get your estimates which will propobally be around $7-12k.

Take said $7-12k and buy a scooped hood, fiberglass front fenders, pro grill, bumpers, winch, tires, lift, RTT.

I suggest letting your Insurance company deal with his directly instead of you dealing with them. Also, his insurance will probably try and other you some "hush money" right up front with the agreement that you wont comeback later on and claim you have an injury stemming from the wreck. If you go that route you have no recourse later on.

I was involved in a bike wreck 4 years ago do to a homeowner letting her dog run off leash. I hit the dog and wrecked my road bike, at the time I only wanted her home owners insurance to cover the repairs on my bike and replacement of my damaged kit, which they did. They also gave me a small amount for the road rash and sprained wrist I sustained. Well, 4 years later I still have problems with my wrist and now have no recourse since I accepted their money with the agreement I wouldn't comeback later and ask for more.

I agree with this 100%. Those other shops say they use 100% OEM parts, but you have no control over what they actually use. a Toyota collision center doesn't have to do shaddy dealings to make a profit since they're the manufacture. The other shops are using Chinese parts and junk yard vehicles.

Guess what head light they used on my Xterra. A cheap Chinese one...

My insurance company is great so I’m letting them do the negotiating for now but haven’t talked to an adjuster yet.

So sorry, that’s good that you are all ok. Dog looks sad... pondering all those squirrels it could have chased while camping if it were not for the accident.

Sorry to hear about your accident! Glad you and the dog are OK. Make sure to demand OEM replacement parts not the inferior Chinese parts. Also, make sure you get a one year warranty from the collision shop on the parts and workmanship. If they are worth their salt they will gladly oblige.

    Good luck!

When I hit a deer a few years ago I went to the dealership body shop. My insurance (State Farm) worked with them all I paid was my deductible even though they went over the original estimate.
As far as your diminished value IDK the insurance company is going to figure that out, in their favor I'm sure. You may want to do some leg work yourself and ask some dealerships what its worth now as opposed to pre accident value. Have those numbers on hand when the insurance company calls. Be ready to negotiate.

~$12k damage assuming no frame damage, which I doubt it has.

Also, expect trade-in value to be around $25k now..so another ~$8-10k loss

    First hand experience over here...
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/add-me-to-the-wrecked-3rd-gen-club.469546/

I had the following replaced with OEM parts, totaling a little over $12k w/labor costs:
    Windshield
Hood (got a Sport hood as a replacement)
    Front bumper
    Bumper support
    Grill
    Headlights
    Fog Lights
    Both Fenders
    A/C Condenser
    P/S Cooler
    Top Radiator Support
    Misc small parts

Diminished claim is a separate claim. Contact your insurance company for guidance

Mine was worse than yours was and the insurance adjuster came out and there was only 14k worth of repairs to do. I asked how much more for a full total and he said it would have to get into 20k+ for them even to consider it a total loss. Diminished value is only if you were 100% not at fault.

I've filed a diminished value claim, and gotten compensated for it. As far as how much, that can be tough to determine. Let me know if you have questions (PM me).

Repairs for damage like yours will not be cheap. This estimate is at least 3k short of what it will take to get back up to OEM quality. 12k is a fair number for the damage. You'd be surprised how much every little piece costs if it's OEM. Even more surprised by the labor.

If they are pulling/pinching the frame, I'd take that into consideration when going for diminished value.

I can’t imagine a situation in which I wasn’t 100% at fault in this case.

Well you definitely should look into diminished value then. That was all on the other driver.

Please update this thread with what your insurance company does with regards to your diminished value claim. It's an absolute shoe in.

It almost makes me wonder... 10k to repair the truck... X thousand dollars for diminished value. Maybe it's worth it to just total it.

Damn that driver took a direct hit, were they OK?

Honestly, from the video they appear to be 100% at fault, as they should have waited on the white truck to completely turn so they weren't pulling out blindly.

ETA - I really need to install my dash cam, your video likely was the difference of who is determined to be at fault.
