Yeah, too bad someone will go to this auction and likely push the cost of this truck well past sane.

It's not necessarily "totaled", the title hasn't come through yet. USAA could have paid the mortgage company for the truck and decided to sell it at auction to make the difference up. Rather than paying say ......~10-15k to fix it up. That truck will sell for 25k from the auction, most of that goes to USAA so they are making out ok on the deal. No blown airbags, looks great in the pictures, they know this special truck will fetch big money.

Insurance companies do business like that all the time. There's loads of clean titled damaged cars coming from insurance companies and this will probably be one of them. Then the big used car dealers buy them up, fix them in house, and pass the savings on to you.

    True true.
I had a car and broke an axel once. The insurance company just paid me for my car. Looks the the front suspension is pretty messed up here too.
    That would be my guess

One can never have too many light bars.
That thing will be picked clean by this time next week. Wheels are probably on a different Yota as we speak.

Doesn't matter where it's fixed. A vehicle gets a branded title like "salvage" or "rebuilt" title if an insurance company is responsible for the damages and deems it "not fixable" but more realistically it's just too expensive to repair based on how much the car, paint, labor, parts, etc are worth. By state law they take possession of the title and send it to the particular state's DMV at which point the state destroys the title and enters it into their system and the car is sold with a bill of sale meaning it needs to go through a re-titling process. In Washington, the state police just check that major parts like fenders or a hood have receipts and aren't stolen, that's it. When it's registered again, it'll have a certain title brand and record. That's how that info is reported to private companies like Car-Fax.

One could get into a major accident in their car every day, but if they don't have full coverage insurance or if the accidents are always their own fault, the trashed and beat up car will always have a "clean" title because an insurance company was never responsible for them.

People think that if a car has a clean or clear title that it hasn't been in any kind of accident or hasn't been floating around in hurricane Sandy. What a title says means very little nowadays, which is sad.

I don't think it works that way
At least from past experience eventually i
I don't think it works that way.
They generally don't part those cars out.
They are auctioned off then the person who buys it can part it out or rebuild it

Lots of times the vehicles are sold as is on the auction block. The guys who work at the place will often take what they want off the truck, and pay the place for it of course, so you end up with most trucks missing any special pieces that were easy to take off with a wrench.

There was another thread on here about a truck stolen in Vegas where another member bought it at a similar insurance auction months later. The wheels were stolen before the auction bu the thieves but the grill and some other odds and ends were taken by employees at the auction house before the auction.

Unless there is frame damage underneath this truck just needs front body panels replaced, bumper, and repairs to that front right tie rod? Obviously something wrong with the angle of that front right wheel's angle. But it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with the radiator from what I can tell.
