kinda looks like he didn't see the stoplight until it was too late. the overpass probably blocks the view from a distance (alot of those around here).

but texting/on the phone probably didn't help any.

You'd think the guy coming from the right would have seen the car in front of him. I don't think he even hit the brakes before hitting him. Must've started texting once the light turned green :p

To clear up the earlier discussion, this is a picture of the intersection near my office, with an almost identical layout to the one in the videos. i know it may be hard to tell because the picture is so small, but when you are driving, you can clearly see the stoplight on the other side of the overpass, before you even start to go under it. So it's not an issue of limited visibility, it's an issue of stupidity.

Yup, that looks familiar. That's my building on the right. You can clearly see the lights.

Crazy. I remember that intersection from when I was living in the Houston area. (Assuming it is the one mentioned earlier of 249 and 1960) And the only way you can miss the lights is if you are not paying attention. There is plenty of unobstructed view there. Just people not paying attention.

Yep. That is the same general view there. I know when I was living in Orlando and Daytona Beach, they started installing strobes in the red lights so that when the light was red, it would have a bright strobe in the middle flashing. Maybe Houston should consider that...

the strobes work very well. parts of DC have also started with the strobes.

A lot of the lights in florida that have higher speed limits coming into them also have a very bright blue light on top that illuminates during the red light cycle. extremely hard to miss, even if you aren't looking directly at it.
