I like this Mod I should have done it years ago but better late than never. I live in So. Cal. so it's more hot than anything and sitting in traffic kills your engine with heat build up so I think it is worth the little time to do it, hell I added a aux fan in the front of the a/c condenser with a switch in the cab to deal with the heat. I wash my engine all the time never had a problem the little water that might get in through the scewp is not a factor. Nice write up OP thank you.

I just ordered an 11" LED light bar for the fake scoop. Hopefully it fits :fingerscrossed:.....If not I will be forced to buy a matching light bar and mount them under the grill! Then buy a smaller one for the scoop hole!

I was thinking the same thing Rickhead, got a slim 11 inch bar for it but haven't installed it yet. Did yours fit and how did you mount it? Dont let people bother you about the opening OP, opinions are like assholes...

Well, I for one think this is a great mod, might even do it myself but why did they design it to be nonfunctional? Just wondering is all.

Just drilled the rivets out, threw some primer on the mesh and going to grab some stainless hardware to finish it off. Thanks for the suggestion!

'04: gray wire mod and battle scars. '15: none yet!
Mine appears to be a single molded plastic piece, as well, so no-go. 2015 TRD Pro.

Anyone mod the scoop to direct into aircleaner?
Guess you'd be constantly cleaning your filter, but engine would sire get more cooler air.
Might give it a power boost?

I've been wondering if removing the plastic was worth it, seeing both sides in the comments. Thank you for going through this step by step.

Nice straw man argument but in every one of those they had a sealed airbox with filter. It didn't allow crap to pile into the engine compartment. Whatever floats your boat dude its your mess.
