So after my oem battery was leaking and wouldn't hold a charge, I decided to pay way too much for an Optima yellow top. It has 770ca and 620cca. Model d35. After being a dumbass and just going alone with what autozone said, I checked tw to see if it was the right one, after I got home with it of course. I'm starting to think it is too small. Any confirmation?

The guy at autozone wanted to sell me mine and the terminals were on the wrong sides. I told him, nah the terminals aren't on the correct sides I want to order the correct one. He looked at me and said all ya gots to do is pull the cables over each Otha and it be fine. I left and ordered the correct one. You got to watch those guys, they really have no clue most of the time.

No, having the terminals on the wrong side will require relocating the ground wire that attaches to the fender. Ask me how I know...

Did you go with the Optima Yellow Top D27F?
Mine seems to be leaking some right around the front where the clamp hold-down is, noticed corrosion around it on last oil change. Only has 24K.... Dealer said it checked out fine, but said the could service and clean it for $50:eek:. No thanks, I can clean myself.

Optimas should not be leaking, period. No sealed battery should ever leak. I personally stopped using Optima batteries over a decade ago. They couldn't keep up with my sound system. I'm a fan of Interstate batteries, although right now, I've got a Power XS.

Sorry I didn't mention it's my OEM battery that's leaking. I've gotten Duracell auto batteries made by Interstate from Sam' Club in the past and have liked them. But I have always heard that Optimas are good and of coarse don't leak....any opinions... Are they worth it?

"Too small" is relative. What do you do with it? You could most likely start and run a Tacoma with a garden tractor battery. You just wouldn't have a lot of reserve capacity.

(In a previous vehicle I ran a garden tractor battery for weight savings -- it didn't even cause a problem in sub-zero weather. Always started.)

I had a Yellow top in our jeep for years. It kept a charge even while sitting in the garage for weeks on end. It handled some very heavy winching while on the trails and never had a problem with it. I'd buy a yellow top again if I needed a bigger/better battery.

Optima Red Tops? Not nearly as good as the yellow tops. We had one of those in a daily driver and it only lasted about 3 years.

My original factory toyota battery lasted 5 years (and it wasn't even dead/bad yet). So, I bought another Toyota battery from the dealer. I believe it has a crazy amount of warranty with it - and why I bought it.

Everyone will have a different opinion depending on their experience. Personally, I've gone through 3 yellow top batteries and I will never go back to optima. I've read good stuff about power xs, which is why I'm trying one out. If this doesn't last, I will likely get an interstate battery.
