1997 ext cab 2.7 4x4. Bought new drums, shoes, hardware. Got home and pulled the passenger side apart. The brake shoes, their part #589 are too narrow and the E brake connector is way different. Called them up to discuss the issue and the clerk there tells me I might have an early version of that year model and maybe they changed the specs on the brake shoes.
I think Im done with that store.

If i say it once, ill say it again.

Do not go and ask questions of a guy wearing a name tag and being paid minimum wage behind a counter questions about your car, and expect to get educated or experienced responses.

I usually use the factory parts diagram or the catalog from Rockauto to get my to-do list together, then i call up bmaparts.com with the list of what i want (I pick up in person, but they offer free shipping with a minimum order). If not them i would find a local parts counter that deals with Asian/European makes or at least has some experience in trucks. Going to an Autozone/Pepboys will always get you low quality Chinese made parts.

When you find a good counter person at any of these new auto parts stores they are soon fast tracked to management and gone.

Your dealing with people looking up parts on a computer if it says this part number works that is what you get

It might be possible you have the wrong shoes in the correct box!!

    97 has two different brake shoe sizes 9.84"x1.97" Part # 505 the other is 11.61"x1.97"Part # 589

It seems the width is the same just the length is different.

Then unless you had this from new it could have a rear housing from anything.

I have all ready got cores in the box as new
