Sold my '15 wrx for the 3rd gen taco. The wrx was a blast to drive and was a head turner...I was running stage 2 with turbo back exhaust, intake etc. Def going to miss the car but decided to get back into the truck due to utilizing the bed of the truck for home repairs. Looking into the future hope to have another one with the ej motor not fa again and keep the truck.

As an owner of both a 2016 Tacoma access cab Sport and a 2012 WXR/STI I say it's because I like Hood Scoops.

Fixed it for you. Toyota bought shares from GM. It says that Toyota is the parent company of FHI, I am not sure what the current share percentage is.

I am sadly/excitedly waiting on my Tacoma to show up as I try to sell my STi. Had my fun for a bit in the racecar, but my lifestyle of bikes, motorcycles, and home projects makes me miss having a truck.

To answer the title question, I think it's because we are people who trust Japanese design over domestic brands.

interesting thread. I'm debating between a 2016 WRX or a 2017 Tacoma. I am definitely uninspired by the trim availability for the Tacoma in the US, as I want an Access Cab Off-Road with manual transmission and of course Toyota Corp. says I'm unworthy.

At the moment I'm leaning toward buying a '16 Rex and maybe consider adding the Taco in MY 2018 or 2019.

You sir just nailed it. It's all about the scoop. I never had a WXR but it was the only other new vehicle I test drove and strongly considered it a few years ago.

2 things with the new fa motor that I had problems with....1) clutch would make weird noise everytime I would clutch in....started after 2k miles and if I were to start the car drive for a couple minutes, turn it off and go to start it again before it was fully warmed up all it would do it crank for 5-8 seconds and start up rough. Go with the ej motor...those are my plans next time

I still have my 2012 WRX. Finding a hard time parting ways. But if I could get that boxer sound to come out of my Tacoma, sold. Wishing thinking.

Haha yep went 04 sti to 09 taco now ready for 16 taco... But boxer sound from toco..I'm in love!!! The header designed to make that possible would be a nightmare though. But a couple years from now after some have been wrecked somebody might want to play arts and crafts with a welder and a tube bender

Ha, went from an 02 Tacoma - 2014 wrx - 2005 sti - to my 2016 tacoma. Loved my subaru's, just not practical as a work vehicle

Traded my 2015 Wrx for 2016 Taco. FA20 motor sucks on Subaru even with Stage 2. Also, there no other forum like Subaru and Tacoma for owners. Both hold their value well.

Picking up my 2016 limited on saturday, but still have my 09 STI!

I've been thinking about selling it and picking up an ISF but don't really want a 3rd "summer only vehicle". I love that I can drive the STI 365 days/year.

I didn't have a WRX but I did trade in my '15 Crosstrek. Just wasn't super happy with it.

Subaru's are definately the new ricer crowds preferred brand. I guess because I had a sport grill and Hellas people were always trying to race me. Little did they know, I only had 148hp.

Love. Its what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

But seriously. Reliability, fun to drive, practicality (kind of), appealing to the outdoor/adventure crowd. At least that'll be my reasoning when I get rid of my '08 Subie Hatch for the Gen 3 Taco. Love the thing, only car I've ever owned, have used it for hauling bikes, gear, wood/supplies, get great gas mileage considering the AWD and how fast and hard I drive it, handles better than anything I have ever driven in snow and on wet roads, and only have had to do regular maintenance on it after 100k miles. I've always wanted a truck though. So I want something with the same reputation, reliability and utility/practicality of my Subaru. The Tacoma is the only one that comes close IMO.

I went from a 2011 E90 M3 to a 2016 DCLB Sport 4x4 V6. The M3 obviously doesn't have the rally heritage of the STI but it's still the vast change from sporty to truck.
