I think the reason is WRX/STI owners love outdoors things (based on the WRX/STI rally background and general outdoor adventure vehicle use), and the easy step is to pick the most outdoor centered truck on the market (best approach/departure angle, off road oriented, Reliability, etc.) once you realize you can't do everything you want to do with the car. I traded my '14 WRX for my Tacoma because I needed to be able to move stuff, pull my motorcycle around, and tackle more off road areas than my WRX would ever even consider as possible. Sure I miss it, but the plan is to have money for both at some point in the future! But for the speeds and the vroom vroom, I'll just hop on my $5000 R6 and go faster than the WRX would ever take me for a fraction of the price haha.

Also, WRX/STI owners love to mod their vehicle. Makes sense to jump to a truck with HUGE aftermarket support!

porchop - had CAI, Boost Controller, Catless Invidia, AP V3 protuned at 93. The boost has lag/ delay in a FA engines. Subaru should have kept EJ in 2015/2016

Funny. I went from my X-Runner (which I loved, but needed rear seats) to a 2015 WRX, and now the 2016 Tacoma DCSB.

I loved the new generation WRX chassis, but the new FA20DIT motor mapping needs some work. I had an AP for it, but didn't marry it since I risked voiding warranty. I just drove it and the mapping was just all over the place. At times it would be quick and boost well, and it at times it would just have flat spots everywhere. I seriously considered selling it and getting an EVO X or STI, but drove both and was underwhelmed.

Realizing i'm a truck guy at heart, I waited for the new Tacomas to come out.

Agree 100% about why Suabru owners buy Subarus, but I was shocked coming here to this forum after owning Subarus for 10 years. Most people buy Subarus for their proven reliability and superior AWD. Most take into consideration that the interiors are little more spartan and creature comforts are just a tad behind the times and they never seem to catch up! But again, most Subaru owners don't care about that because like you mentioned, they are informed buyers, know what they're getting into, and buy a Subaru for the reasons mentioned.

With all that said, you'd think since it's an actual truck forum people would be more about the capabilities of the vehicle, but people here seem to spend more time posting pics and complaining about how ugly the grill is, creature comforts, and aesthetics. My guess is most of the guys that are doing lifts and what not and won't do much off-roading (yes, there are guys who actually do, and I'm not saying this is everyone). Seems like the soccer moms who own Subarus are less picky than most of the guys who are on here whining about their trucks and how they look!

I switched from a '12 Subaru Outback to a '16 Tacoma simply because I was tired of the 4cyl, and wasn't that impressed with the 6cyl. I mean, it's a grungy little engine for a 4 banger with quite a bit or torque for it's size and being a small engine in a fairly large car, but when it came down to it, loaded with a lot of gear and/or people it just wasn't cutting it. I REALLY miss the fit and finish of my Outback, and NOTHING out there handles snow as good as Subaru's AWD combined with the horizontally opposed Boxer engine giving it a nice, lower center of gravity though. Since moving from Colorado to the Bay Area I'm not making as many trips up to the mountains these days though, so I'm hoping the lack of Subaru AWD won't come back to haunt me.

I went from an 06 WRX to the 16 Tacoma. Kept the WRX. It's paid off, so not really costing me anything. Now that it's not my DD, it might be getting some motor work/bigger turbo etc.

Don't have a 3rd gen.....I wanted one but just couldn't part with the 1st gen and couldn't afford a 3rd gen without selling it so I did the next best thing and bought a 2016 WRX

Selling off my forestor and have a 16 TRD OR 4x4 tacoma on order. I can honestly say I'm gonna be sad to see it go. Subaru makes a great vehicle and the all wheel drive is second to none and even better on the trail than some true 4x4s with open differentials. On my way to fishing spots Ive driven that car up muddy rutted hills that other 4x4s where debating on trying. Even pulled my buddys rubicon out of a snow bank with it ( I remind him of that as much as I can). Getting the taco because I need a pickup and the ability to tow a small camper. The big diesels are nice but I don't feel like commuting in a 2500/3500 and adding exhaust fluid is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. So yeah, go taco!

Stupid wrexs' :boink:, went from GLI to tacoma, but yes the draw from the WRX to taco is very popular. And one of the only trucks available w/ manual transmission. That was one of the biggest selling points for me.

07 Impreza 2.5i wagon to 13 taco dcsb or.

    Main reasons?
    1. The non turbo ej motor ate/leaked a quart of oil every 1k
    2. All 4 wheel bearings were shot and the rear lca bolt are impossible to remove without breaking
    3. interior, everything rattled and squeaked
    4. electrical gremlins in window switches and headlight switch
    5. Horrible sound deadening, shitty interior
    6. Non-telescoping steering wheel
    7. 2 blown struts
    8. Leaky headers
Most problems started around 100k, I am the first owner and sold it off as is at 142k.

    The good about Subaru?
    1. I never got stuck in any weather conditions except getting high centered on the beach and snow.
    2. Original clutch
    3. Easy to drive and toss around
    4. Amazing awd system with 31 mpg on long trips at 75mph
    5. Wagons are sexy.

The taco is better in all areas except speed/mpg

I am on my second WRX. This is my current one that I just purchased 4-5 months ago. I have new needs in my life and am wanting a truck. I am currently selling it and putting a deposit on a TRD sport tomorrow.

Great car. Handles like a dream. Terrible in the snow due to clearance.

    Funny you say that. I am ordering my 4th car with a hood scoop. 2005 wrx > 2006 4runner Sport > 2016 wrx > 2016 Tacoma Sport

I had a 2007 STI and an 03 Tacoma TRD. Loved both of them but didn't have the room and got sick of deciding what to drive. Sold both and bought my 2015. Really miss my Sti:(

Fyi, I sold my 2015 WRX on beepi.com for 2K less than what I purchased it for. From first contact til they came and picked up the car, was only 3 days! I am not affiliated with them, just sharing my story. Easiest sale ever. My car was 10 months old and had 8k miles.

If they made a hatch STI I'd have done that. Or a Outback MT XT.

    But they don't.

I am looking to get close what I paid for it. Especially since I got 1,000 under invoice at a Denver dealership. Had to get it shipped in but saved me 2500 dollars compared to the 16' WRX's selling here.

They hold their value very well
