if your trying to put this in a later model i.e. 05-08, i think you need more wiring behind the head unit to make it work. just an f.y.i

The plugs are the same for 2009 and pre-2009. I don't know for absolute certain whether it will swap or not, but i think it should. You are obviously going to lose functionality for the mini-plug line-in, since there's not one on the pre-2009 models. But the stereo itself, the speaker connections, etc. should be the same.

    Here's a thread from TN with the back of a pre-2009: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252634&highlight=changer.

    Here's the back of a 2009.

Also, when I did my swapout I used a harness kit for a 2005-2008 to hook my aftermarket head unit into my truck's harness. It worked without a hitch, so the connectors that matter (power, ground, speaker connections, illumination, etc.) seem to be the same for the 2005-2008 and the 2009.

I was going to get the one just in the sale section (replied on the TN forum), but he said that for sat. radio to work you have to buy a $60 cable to hook up to the stock (on 09s) sat. antenna. So basically you would have to find an antenna that matched the input on the cable. Since I couldn't use the aux input, or the sat radio, I decided against it for now.

That $60 antenna (Part # SFA12M) is what you use to hook up an aftermarket satellite receiver to the factory antennae. It has a generic satellite antennae connection on one end and a Toyota-specific plug on the other.

To connect the factory receiver to the factory satellite setup, the dealer sells a kit. I think they call it a "fit kit". I never priced it out since I knew I was swapping out the head unit regardless, but I have a feeling it is a good bit more than $60.

For anyone who's swapping out head units, though, that SFA12M works great to connect an aftermarket satellite receiver to the factory satellite antennae. Damn expensive for just a cable, though.

so If i have the 09 cd player I can't just plug and play for the 06 for the FM channel? if I get that $60 cable for the satellite do I have to pay monthly for the satellite?

what? you're confused. FM should be plug and play. satellite is not, even for 09. for 09 you still have to buy the XM receiver and connection kit.

09 and 05-08 have the same FM antennae. 2009 also has a built-in satellite antenna. 05-08 do not (except JBL, maybe?). that $60 antennae is for 09 models, or 05-08 i guess if you retrofit with the built-in antenna .

why not go the easy route and get an aftermarket satellite-ready HU and a satellite tuner? so much easier than trying to piece together all the parts needed to have satellite on the stock radio, probably cheaper, and better sound too.

yeah, the MP3 capability is the main difference, to me at least. even with a non-JBL 2009 you have to buy expensive dealer parts to get the satellite radio up and running. really stupid, if you ask me. it was cheaper for me to buy a nice aftermarket HU and XM receiver than it would have been to get the factory XM receiver and installation kit.

my wife' s 2005 Accord came with the XM up and running with no extra BS to buy, and she didn't even opt for any special stereo package. toyota is definitely nickel and diming the customer on this.
