I need to get my wife a new lap top hers is crappin out on here.. the screen goes fuzzy or has lines going across is and it freezes up and wont work at all.

I am looking for something inexspensive but reliable. It doesnt need alot of bells and whistles.. just be good enough for her to surf the web or get on facebook. All she really uses it for. No Gaming or programs other than Microsoft Office stuff.

So Techi-Peeps what can you suggest

Acer makes good cheap laptops. I used one for years when I was in school. Never had any issues with it. My sister is currently in school and she's using an Acer also. No problems with her's either.

If the link doesn't work for you then go to www.newegg.com and put TOSHIBA Satellite C655D-S5057 in the search bar and it should come up.

I've got a 10" ASUS Eee PC that I use regularly for internet, email, paying bills, iPhone syncing, etc. I like the portability and it works great for the basic stuff. I also have a slim external dvd drive that I might use for the rare occasion that I've got to run a disc.

    I have a Acer 11.6 netbook, here....
    http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-A...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1287069314&sr=8-1

Bought on Thanksgiving last year for $299, love it, and the battery lasts longer than what is reported, at least on mine.

I recently bought my wife a Dell laptop and she loves it too. Dell is having a deal right now on refurbs. I bought a refurb desktop about three years ago from Dell, have had zero problems.

    I just got it!
Honestly, don't even bother. Get her an iPad, and a bluetooth keyboard.

I got my mother this combo a few months ago, and she said she hasn't used her old desktop since. There's nothing she needs a computer for anymore.

Sure, you can buy her a plastic cheap laptop that looks okay and runs good for about a year. Or, you could get her an iPad. Aluminum and glass. It will run as well as it does out of the box in 4 years, too. That's the problem with PC's, everybody. They age faster than your dog.

I don't mean to start a Mac vs. PC battle, here. That would be a thread jack, but if anyone is interested, start a topic, I'll happily join an argument with you if you like:)

Back to the point. Don't brush this off. Sit there reading this and think for a moment.

"What does my wife need a computer for?" and think of EVERYTHING. What is she missing out on if she gets an iPad with a keyboard? Very few things. And those things she is missing out on, are likely things she won't care about losing.

    What do you think?

I wanna say it's a 1000H, but there have been a bunch of newer, more stylish ones released since I got this one.

It comes with Win7 Starter....don't know how fast it would be, but mine's on XP and it's okay speedwise. The other thing I didn't care so much for was the trackpad because it was just too small for my hands. So I also got a MS Arc mouse, which I love. It's small too, but not uncomfortable for me to use.
