Good luck OP. Sounds like a pretty shit situation, but after all the work that has been done they owe you a truck that behaves.

And then you pay $5,000 to replace only to have something fail again and leave you without a vehicle. Not to mention the multiple recalls this truck has already been in for.

What recalls have YOU been in for, you said CKP but it wasn't changed. What other recall, the drip recall? Was your truck confiscated?

If you paid for the work at a dealership then they warranty the parts and labor for 12 months and 12,000 miles[maybe unlimited miles I can't recall], if they damaged something, they NEED to find it and fix it.

At this point I think you're going to get stuck with paying for someone to diagnose it unless you have the extended warranty.

Yep, not the truck's fault, it's the service dept you took it too. Truck is just informing you they have more work to do.

You don't even know if its for sure something you did off-roading or their negligence in the shop.

This always seems to be the dig phrase when someone isn't happy with their new 3rd gen.

Here's a nugget of info, you think the 3rd gen has had a lot of recalls, take a look at the list for the 2nd gen.

    http://www.toyotaproblems.com/recalls/Tacoma/

In all seriousness, get your truck fixed and let us know what they find out.

Edit: I know the list isn't complete as there are 2 additional recalls for the 16 but imagine how many might be missing from all the 2nd gen trucks too.

We've had a 2015 4Runner that we bought new in Feb of 2015. Not a single issue, no recalls, nothing. It's been awesome and we drive the piss out of it. Currently 50k miles at this time

Was it confiscated or did you bring it in for a quick check and sent on your way?

So you were affected by the recalls but other than inspected there was no further action needed. The trip for the transmission failure and replacement was due to the dent, not the design.

Yeah I can see why you're pissed at your 3rd gen truck. o_O

You realize the 4runner is serviced by the same idiots that touched your tacoma, right?

It would make more sense to just leave the brand. But i promise you all brands have some form of recall or defect that needs addressing. No brand is immune

I dont blame you for how you feel. At the same time off roading comes with risks.

Wrong. You have Takata airbags in that thing. Better read up on them, especially in a hot climate.
