About 4" long, wings are functional as it eventually flew away. This was Labor Day weekend, in Kananaskis, Alberta (lower elevation rockies)

Gentlemen We have a Bug

 

the first one just gives me the creeps but the second one i think will put you in the hospital look like somekind of stinging jerk bug in my opinion

 

Damn... How did that thing get out of its cage?!?

 

Perhaps an Asian Hornet that took a wrong turn somewhere?

 

My girlfriend and i were camping, last day. The axe was leaning against a tree along with a bag of recycling. I move the recycling bag and go to grab the axe when i spotted that nasty thing. I call the girl over as she's pretty up on forest shit like bugs and plant life and she couldn't identify it either. I took a few pics and didn't really want it hanging around while we finished packing up. So i grab the axe and try to get it to crawl on to move it. Sonofabitch wouldn't budge. So i sort of flicked it with the dull end of the axe to get it to fly away. It did. Then circled back and tried to fuckin' dive bomb us! It flew away after the first attempt and never came back, but did succeed in scaring the beejesus out of both of us.

Like i said, was about 4" long, and maybe 3/4" wide.

Oh, and "look like somekind of stinging jerk bug in my opinion" <------------ Hahahaha!

 

i've seen a few of those here in SC in my lifetime. they are scary as hell! no idea what it's like to get stung by one but i dont wanna find out

 

yeah, i'm pretty sure it's the opposite of pleasant

 

by the colors on it black and yellow............you know the old saying..........black and yellow touching can kill a fellow. I would have smashed it with the ax then taken it to the local zoo. See if the can identify it.
