you leave when there is a better opportunity, or the chance for a better opportunity in the near future. Meaning, a temporary drop off for long term gain

If you feel like moving to Maine, the surveyor crew here is aging out and they're looking for new blood. I know of a couple of different businesses that are looking to hire surveyors because they've got guys looking to retire in the next couple of years. Sebago Technics is one of them (based in Portland) and I know for a solid fact that they want Survey help (my GF works there).
But, you should be warned that Mainers do survey work in the winter, too, not just during the summer.

no one else has a license or is even pursuing one that is in the field. The owner (who doesn't work anymore at all) and 1 in the office have a license. and I have I think 6 classes left.

Sometimes people just hate their jobs. When a young guy like you comes along and starts working hard and enjoying it, it kind of pisses them off. Not sure why, probably because your hard work reminds them that they are lazy shit holes. Anyways, I think its bullshit, but as someone said above, welcome to the good ol boy system. Its more about fitting in than doing a good job sometimes.

In the Navy, I learned to work hard but complain and bitch about it just enough to fit in with the other miserable SOB's. I also learned to keep my opinions to myself.

The tone in your current job has been set so good luck changing it. But when you do move on, remember, people will treat you how you let them treat you. Make sure you are humble and don't be so quick to offer advice or show people how much you know; they don't care. Asking questions, sometimes even if you know the answer, tickles their pride sometimes. That said, never take any crap. At 20 you are far from "grown" but that doesn't mean you have to be treated like you're 15.

As you progress in your career, never forget this experience. When a 20 year old hard worker starts working for you, remember how hard it was for you and be sure to give him some sound advice. Don't become part of the system and kick him around like your current boss is doing to you.

I am always eager to learn. at evaluations, I requested that my boss give me challenges to learn more and do better (he never did that...). Ive asked many questions, and then i do what they say.

You don't always win. Sometimes they can't see past your age. Just keep your head down and stick it out.

They (senior guys) used to tell me to "slow down" cause i would make them look bad...I never let up one smidge. Keep your head up young buck, hard work always pays off and i am living proof of such. Had to give up on my degree at the time due to long hours in the field/zero financial backing. Moved from rod man up to party cheif in a matter of 2 years. Now i am in the office (boooo, jonesin for field work) and continue to advance. Stay strong my friend, stay in school also. Thats highly commendable and will take you where you want to be for sure.

after readin all these im tempted to apply elsewhere because it sounds like this is how its going to be. i can't do with a $200 a week, but i also understand the stick it out. I like the job, but i don't like the treatment.

So far ive discussed how i would like more hours, and i am learning a lot and getting good experience. They also know how much i love the job. But the reaction i got was they WONT let me get more hours. They claim its the budget. but making 200,000 in profit after paying every bill in 3 months says they could either pay me more (doubt they will) or give me the hours.

THIS. its exactly what i want. 8 months ago that's what it was like and they led me to beleive, but in the last 2 months its just gone downhill from that to part time only for me.

Sometimes its kind of a like a fraternity; if you can put up with their shit long enough, they will accept you. Stay away from jobs like that. I would def look around for a new job but continue to work hard at the current job until you are hired elsewhere.

Chad is exactly right, don't let up.

Just make sure you manage your expectations. You might not find a better environment and will be starting out new and back at the bottom of the shit pile. At least at your current job you kind of know where you stand.

What Im trying to say is don't rush into a new job.
