I have seen that in my 4 banger. I was not too sure what that was for either. It is there for a reason, I don't want to mess around with it.

Its very important to the emissions in others words your cel will come on if its taking out. The advantage is it gets you car into closed loop faster so the engine will run rich for a shorter time to get the cat's hot

Think of it like blowing on a camp fire. When the truck is cold the pump blows air downstream to warm up the cat faster...
My wife's old Volvo had the same thing and they would fill up with condensation killing the pump (they were mounted low below the battery). On the Volvo it would throw a CEL....That little bastard was like $380 for a replacement. So to get through emmissions testing every year I would wire up one of those 12v raft pumps just prior to inspection.. Yes, I know......Ghetto.. But it worked until we finally traded in the car with almost 300k on it..
