WTF, PAINT FLAKING OFF?!? Anyone else?

I have a Super White 2008 that I purchased new . No paint problems. Shiny if you take care of it . Yes it is single stage paint meaning the clear coat is IN the paint not on top .

 

Base coat is applied directly to the ED coat under the hood. It's only there for atheistics. It serves no protective purpose. However, the exterior of the vehicle has primer applied before the white base coat.

 

Yeah, my 2010 has good white paint. No flaking off like what's going on in this post.

I have white and it does not have any paint issues.
OPs bought poorly repaired truck ..

 

This just happened to my white Tacoma. Driver's side passenger door right under the window, I saw the paint starting to crack. Took my truck to the snow last week, started to rain and snow, then paint started coming off. I am extremely upset with this. I as well show the quicksand color under the white paint. Definitely call Toyota and see what they can do. Good Luck!!

 

not saying it can’t be taken care of, but of all the Toyota paints, white is by far the worse...and has been for a long time. I have a 2016 white 4Runner and the paint is still in great shape, my 2016 white Tundra looked great, but they all took way more care to keep looking good than even my black Toyotas.

 

Black is a pain in the ass to keep clean for sure . I pay special attention to the roof of mine as it needs more polishing and wax then the rest .

 

It’s been an issue with Toyota’s white for a couple decades now. I don’t think 2019 will be any different.

 

my 2018's clear coat is peeling off the hood and there is a discernible top coat over the white paint.

 

Has it had any front end damage from a crash? Did you buy it used?
That looks exactly like the front fenders were repaired or replaced and the body shop did a shitty job with the repair. That can’t be factory paint

 

Nope. Again that is the factory E coat. I work in a body shop. Watch this video you will understand. They literally dip the vehicle in a tank of corrosion resistant coating (E-coat).

 

I doubt his truck was "poorly repaired." Put down the pipe and step away.

Everyone that are claiming "poor repair" probably have white trucks and don't want to believe that Toyota white sucks . Here's a picture from the linked RECALL article. I'm sure all of these are poor repairs too.

You are too strange man those are all poorly repaired. I'll bet you my house, cars and even my wife those are poor repairs!

Alright..... as soon as this coronavirus thing ends I will trade in my white taco.... between this and the frame prone to rust is the end for me..... I can’t deal with this.........

 

Be on the safe side and wax that area just in case.. With real wax. Not the fake stuff.
