My 2008 is single stage ,clear coat mixed in . Maybe Toyota changed it at some point

i can assure that's not the case. the spot in the middle is where the clear coat chipped off and has a matte texture while the areas around it is smooth.

it's not a big deal to me. it's a toyota truck and my 04 has a dull paint now too. adds character if you ask me.

now if this was a 80k mercedes then yeah i'd be mad.

i'll be honest and say i'm not the best at taking care of my paint so it's partially my fault probably.

I’m talking about the perfect circles on the top left side. Maybe it was contaminated before they cleared it.

i've read the same thing but this is just my experience with both my tacomas (04 and 18). there is definitely a clear coat.

i have no idea, i don't know anything about car paint tbh. i do plan on bringing this up whenever i go in to take care of the 2 recalls on my truck right now.

 

I probably wash ,clay ,polish and seal and wax no less than 3 times a summer . Probably more Truck is 12 years old and some people can’t believe it !

 

lol yeah i only take it through the drive thru car wash once every few weeks. i live in an apt complex and they don't let me work on my truck let alone wash it and detail it.

 

I only use the drive through in the winter if it is really really dirty . I will use the self serve power wash though in the winter . Almost always 2 bucket hand wash .

 

How the paint was taken care of is a big part of how it holds up. But I will say the fact that the paint chipped off under the hood is a little odd. But it’s all very fixable.

 

White tacoma came in super white, not pearl white.

I stand corrected! I appreciate that. Just took a magnet to my hood, and you're spot on, so I deleted my initial post.

It was one of those great facts you read while cruising thru different threads here on TW. Curious about the different primer though. Wonder if the steel of the hood is different compared to the fenders.

 

I had a white Prius that did the same thing. There’s also a thread about clear coat peeling off of blue Tacoma’s.
