The best upkeep in the world is no match for shitty paint. If my Rachel never hand washes of waxes her VW Jetta for six years of undergrad and grad school and the paint still looks good that should tell you something.

    Toyota screwed the pooch

for the paint to peel off like this, it can only mean two things: bad paint or improper preparation of the surface to be painted

heck, for the bed rails on my truck I used painted steel bars that were at least 30 years old and the paint on them was still hard as a rock and didn't want to be removed, even with a drill wire brush

    working on it!
Earlier someone said "factory E coat" is under the paint color. Is that a green-ish primer/paint? I was under my truck running wires for a pop&lock and expected to see MGM color, but saw this green-ish color with a clear coat on it. I was surprised that Toyota doesn't fully paint the vehicle. top & bottom in the chosen body color. I have a 2020 Pro.

Are these paint issues linked to a particular origin of manufacture (ie. Mexico vs Texas)?

    Update...

So I ended up dropping by my local dealership this afternoon with the intention of picking up some touch up paint to cover up this spot to keep it from flaking away. I decided to run it by a service advisor. Good thing too... because he asked if I'd be willing to leave it for a few hours for him to photo to start a claim. I said sure... A couple hours later, he calls me and says we are all done... and says can you drop off the truck in 3 weeks and leave it for 3 to 4 days to have it repainted? I said heck yea... So Toyota is coming through on this one even though I'm over the 36k mark. Actually, I'm at 46,500 miles at the moment, but he says they will take care of it and will give me a free loaner car. Totally did not expect that to happen...

Doubtful. Just as @calebc posted. White Tacomas are prone to flake. This is due to the process of the white paint job which mostly happens to just the white vehicles. That's why its not a good idea to buy a white Toyota. Per my knowledge of a neighbor who use to work for Toyota.

Glad they are fixing the problem, did you find out if your vehicle was affected for the recall/warranty enhancement program of the white paint job?

Pessimistic much? The factory paint sucked and now that a local body shop has their stamp on. It will be better than new

pearl white is super white just with a pearl top coat.

the base coat super white is still the inherent issue
