WTF, PAINT FLAKING OFF?!? Anyone else?

Used 2016.. I salute you for trying..

 

My 2020 4runner that has less than 3400 miles on it and I’ve had since January 10 has started to flake on the hood. While detailing it today I was going over the hood and while going over it with a microfiber wash mit it flaked on me over certain spots. Like I literally saw it flake off in front of me. I had the same issue on my Tacoma, there was metal burs under the paint and had to go in for repaint. I have an appointment on Saturday to have it looked at. Hoping I don’t get dicked around. Super disappointed.

 

Wow. That’s a bummer. At least yours should be covered. I was like 12k miles out of my warranty, so I’m just rocking the ghetto look.

Could be the picture but that does look like a rock chip or equivalent....

 

It’s fixable either way fill it in with touch up paint that’s mixed with clear. Put a couple of coats on let it dry between coats and keep adding until the paint is above the surface. Make sure you leave it that way for a few days. Then go back and we’d sand with 1500 ( ok to sand a larger area ) then with 3000
Once done buff with a very light compound then then polish and wax and it will mostly disappear
Especially on white

 

true, however it’s in a spot where a rock hitting it’s not likely, the paint flaked off in front of me and there’s zero rock chips on the vehicle. Oh well

 

I will say this; I would maybe try another dealer.Or going to a good body shop to get an opinion . If you look really close at the area where the paint is missing around the edges are small bubbles almost like the panel wasn’t cleaned correctly before painted. Maybe something oily. It doesn’t take much for this to happen. I think you may be able to push this issue

 

my paint on my mirrors are peeling off, and the rest of the car is fine, anything we can do?

 

Yes....that's a simple problem....purchase new mirror covers. They pop right off and pop back on.

Agree def looks like a chip and not flake, though Toyota paint is so thin, my radiant red, mgm, silver sky, cement and super white all chipped like crazy no matter what I did to prevent, and it was not in the usual spots for chips, world of no mud flaps, aggressive offsets and lifts, thin paint and poor design, sh*t roads.
