is it really obligatory?? cause I really don't want my dealer messing with my gas pedal, even worse when they are so freaking dumb sometimes that who knows, they might end up shaving my brake pedal.

Yeah don't worry about it OP, but if you take it in for something else make sure to take your floor mat out and tell them to leave your foot pedal alone.
I'm not sure if they can legally cut the pedal without telling you, but I wouldn't risk it.

Is it really that big of a deal if they do cut a 1\2 " off the bottom of the pedal ?

This is interesting. There was another thread around here which showed the logic in the brake override system. It was a flowchart. I'll post a link if I can find it. Thanks for sharing that.

For me I'm going to make them show me a before and after pedal before I decide to let them slice mine up. But I'll most likely get it done for legal reasons.

I am pretty sure they only take a small amount off the bottom of the pedal due to the possibility of the floor mats being trapped under the pedal .

I personally don't see how it would affect the use or feel of the pedal . If your truck came with the new pedal shape to start with , would you think the gas pedal was too small ?

Recalls are mainly for safety issues and are the manufacturer's way of fixing it.

I'm no so concerned with reducing the gas pedal even though it looks a little rough in the linked photo, but wonder about reflashing the ECM for the brake override. After just getting my transmission reflashed and everything is working properly, it hard to mess with something that ain't broke. Anyone notice anything different who has the work done?

I will admit two things that I have done that concern me about the current uncut gas pedal.

    1. During hunting season with large boots on, I have hit both the brake and gas pedal at the same time. Nothing happened other than the engine reved high but the truck did not move.

    2. At night time removing my Weathertech floor mat, dumping out the debris, reinstalling without checking to see if it went under the gas pedal. Next morning, cranking up with my engine reving very high only to find my Weathertech was put back on top of the gas pedal. Lesson learned and I now visibly check to make sure it was installed properly, under the gas pedal.

Both of the above were caused by me and I admit as much. Not sure if cutting the gas pedal will help with #1. However, I hope to pass this truck down to my son in the next few years. If there is something I can do to make it safer, without compromising performance, then I will probably do it.
