That is super weird. Have you tried disconnecting your battery and reconnecting it after ~ 30 minutes? The brake thing is the weirdest part, doesn't make any sense. I would take it to the dealer.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
    Well for one that's weird

For two, sounds like the guys who did the alarm fobbed something up

and for three, that's just weird.

I understood if you had something like your cylinder on your ignition was broke and you can pull the keys out while it's running..common problem but if it's still running with key out of ignition and it's actually running(not dieseling)..then that's interesting.

Do you have remote start? It has to be the Viper system. If you have a remote start kit properly installed and you turn the truck on using the remote, if you touch the breaks it will turn off if the key is not in it. The Viper system is either improperly installed or they installed the wrong kit which may contain a remote start feature that you didnt want. The truck is assuming you started it remotely and that is why when you hit the breaks it turns off with the key out.

Just guessing here but it looks like a wire connected to the lock/cylinder/barrel is shorted. Reason for that guess is that my remote start killed everything when the brake was pressed without a key in the cylinder and turned to "On". (<-Previous vehicle) I'd start by checking around that area.

edit: after reading the above mention Viper Alarm problems is there a way to take it out of the equation and see if it's a bad wire or something internal to the alarm/remote start? Just something to isolate..

Your truck sounds like it has a mind of its own. Reminds me of my parents old Nissan, it would lock its doors and roll down the windows by its self, even if the engine was off. Electrical issues can be quite annoying to repair. Good luck with the fix.

Another thing, does it do this if you open the door?

i know mine (unless i am remembering wrong, i havent had my truck for a few weeks :( ) woul shut off when a door was opened, and stay on if i didnt touch anything

doubt it helps, but i figured i might throw it out there

my mom has non factory remote start on her camry. Somthing with the brake kills the remote start if you don't put the key in first.

Sounds like that but in reverse.

Kinda what I was thinking, internal short in the ignition cylinder or internal to the alarm/remote start bypassing the key.

Air Bag light usually means the coil spring has gone bad (with out the air bags ever being deployed).

ok, sorry for the late reply i was checking on some stuff, the alarm does not have a remote start, that i know of, the truck had the alarm when i bought it, in the year that i have had this truck this has been the first and only problem it has given me.

    anything else besides alarm???

what im gonna do tomorrow is remove the alarm all together, and see what hapends there, also just for kicks i removed the ignition switch (figured a push button start system may solve the problem) and the problem persisted

im kinda at the end of my rope... :(
