So, we had a minor rain storm in So. Cal today, I get into my truck after work and start off home.
I notice something dripping in front of my left knee from the dash area and discover that there is water dripping out of the coin compartment thing.

How the hell does water get in there? There is wiring and switches just above that coin thing and it worries me that there is water in there.

Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

    Thanks

I've talked to some xrunner owners and I think they said it's something to do with the plastic cowel thing below the windshield that sucks in fresh air for the ac. If you have no luck here you can prolly ask this question on XRU.

this might be stretching> did you add any switches for lights, maybe its coming through where you ran your wiring throught the fire wall.

i would start by looking in your fender well, then the firewall, if it isn't obvious i would have someone with a garden hose spraying in the fender well, inside the engine bay spraying everywhere at randon while your looking under your dash.
if your driving in a rainstorm water is coming up in your wells, from underneath etc....you get the picture. Hope that helps if you try it, maybe it will narrow down where the water is getting in.

UPDATE: I MAY be on to something...........
Today I popped the hood to remove and clean my AFE dry drop in air filter, and in the dust on the big black plastic plate on top of the engine I find........LARGE rodent prints and tail drag marks, RATS! Didn't see any droppings though.
Maybe a rat got under the hood, and chewed a hole through the firewall and that is how water kicked up by my tires during the rain storm got into the dash coin compartment.
Tomorrow I will hose test to try and find the source of the water entry point.

    Stock. Purchased 2/17/19. Cement!
I too had a bad cowl piece and it leaked inside but from the passenger side.
Put a water hose on your windshield and look for the leak. Haven't heard about a leak on that side. Good luck.

When my 08 X-Cab was new same problem. After all the Toyota BS telling me it was the windsheild and taking it back 4 times. Also I told them it was not the WS. It was the roof seam. No big deal to fix just dum-ass service. That was at Libertyville Toyota in Illinois. I will never go back. Well I dont live in Libertyville anymore. It is a great town.

My leak came down the piller and driped out the grip, coin box over the wires carpet was wet. 3 + years later so far no problmes. I look under the dash a few times a year just to look for something from the leak.

No Shit! I did a hose flood test of the windshield, cowl, and even over the tire under the wheel wells.
I couldn't get any water in there..............

    I'm still stumped

I'd make sure you track it down before your next rainy day. If its dripping around the coin compt then that means its also going across the fuse box, probably not a good idea.

It sounds to me like its probably coming in on t he bottom corner of your windshield though, where the cowl that pops out is at. I noticed mine was loose the other day as well. I'm not a fan of how that area is designed.
