But the business doesn't care, they just told me to roll my windows down. Usually its just a couple hundred dollar fine and they make you peel the film off

Yeah I understand but that one day when your not paying attention about rolling them down you stand the chance of getting a ticket. ( At least thats the way I think of it.) And Im "not sure" but I hear through the grape vine that a ticket for illegal window tint is more expensive than a speeding ticket. Just my .02 cents.

This thread got me curious because I have been thinking of tinting my front windows so I found this link. Thought it might be useful to others...

This is what I got for Alabama however I make no claims as to the accuracy of the information, use at your own risk.

    Section 32-5C-2

Prohibitions against operation of motor vehicle under conditions which reduce light transmission.

Except as provided in this chapter, a person shall not operate a motor vehicle registered in this state under either of the following conditions:
    (1) With material or glazing applied or affixed to the front windshield which reduces light transmission through the front windshield.
    (2) With material or glazing applied or affixed to the rear windshield or the side or door windows which reduce light transmission through the rear windshield or side windows to less than 32 percent or increase light reflectance to more than 20 percent, with a measurement tolerance of at least 3 percent. The light transmission shall be measured with a device or instrument capable of measuring light transmission before a person may be charged with a violation of this section, and the officer shall be equipped with such a meter before stopping the driver.
    (Acts 1996, No. 96-534, p. 746, §2.)

I got mine done at Gulf Coast last week when I was in L.A. He does a good job. I kept mine at 20%. Looks good and they do a good job cutting it in. I heard about them from a friend here in Pensacola, and I drove over there and was not dissapointed.

usually a tint business will install whatever you want, if its below the legal limit they dont give you a reciept or anything that will trace the job back to them. And in Charlotte a tint ticket IS more than a speeding ticket, $175.... however if you peel it off and get an inspector to sign off on it, you can get the ticket dropped. Then just get your windows re-done and it only costs you $50 or so hahaha. I havent tinted my tacoma yet, i got a 2010 Magnetic Grey Metallic dbl cab, with all of 700 miles on it :D.. i speak from experience with my other truck

I got one on my old civic. It was for $125. And I had 24 hours to take care of getting it off or they could double the fine if I got caught again.

Pretty much. When I had mine done, the deal was cash only and they were very clear I was on my own in terms of getting inspected.

No big deal, as long as you're going in eyes-open.

Ben, I gotta call you on this one, Oasis tint on Airport is IMO the best in the area. Fast, quick and very meticulous.

Toyo you can't go wrong if you use Oasis PM me and I will give you his number.

He is just down past Cody road on Airport where the old Goodyear Dealership used to be.

Backup cam in the tailgate handle mod.
I actually think my front may look a little lighter but only because the light that comes from the front windshield, otherwise it pretty much identical. I think I want darker all around next time.

I don't know if other states are similar but here is the law in Utah.

So if a place sells you a tint job that is illegal then they can be be sighted also. I guess you need to order it online and get uncle Bob to do the tinting.

FWIW; I got mine done at a very reputable shop a few years back and they matched the rear windows with a 'special' tint that had just come out and was 23% IIRC. Perfect match.
