Jumped in the truck this morning and it wouldn't start. Same deal, turned over and ran for about 1 second then shutdown. Had to jump in my wife's car and head to work. Wife decided to try and start the truck a couple hours later and it started right up.

She called the dealership and explained the problem, they agreed, this wasn't normal. They asked for me to bring the truck in to take a look at it. I will let you know what they say.

I will tell them everyone's thoughts about the mobilizer circuit.

If you have the same problem, best we can all do is let the dealers know so the Toyota can fix the issue.

I'd be all over lemon law. It's not worth the headache. If they're not willing to do it, write a letter to the CEO's office with all documentation in a clear, formal, firm but nice way. Hand a copy to your local service department and let them know the other is in the mail. They'll work with you to get it resolved fast, be it replacement or not.

Final Update (hopefully): i researched the lemon law for NM. according to my understanding, it states the vehicle must have be taken in (to the dealer) for an issue, 4 or more times / or being worked on for 30 consecutive days: both cases taking place in the first year of ownership... so right now i am 2 / 4.

Anyways, the ASM called me Tuesday at noon, stating they had fixed the issue...(starnge because they had a 3 day weekend of not working on it, and within 4 hours its just fixed). He stated that they had found the issue. (see attached). but it was even more strange when i asked him if they got the problem to duplicate...he paused and answered a drawn out yes, like he had no idea wtf i was talking about... but the invoice seems convincing.

    What do you guys think?

Sounds like they spent a good twenty minutes on it... prolly typing it up to look good... if it was simple...how comes they didn't catch that in Utard? and WTF is a junction Block?
anyhow Hope it works out for you... your own truck working would be hell of a lot simpler than a bunch of runaround...

The junction block is right next to the flux capacitor. Everybody knows that:)

This thread is the first I have heard of it. I have had an 06 and now a 09 Tacoma in upstate NY. First two weeks plus in January this year it was hovering around 5*f. No problems here.

A junction block is one of those monster plugs that holds lots of wires. (http://autorepair.about.com/library/images/bl258lib.htm) Tracking down electrical stuff like that is anything but simple. And particularly if a problem is intermittent, tracking it down can be impossible.

Think about going into a stadium with a thousand lights. Someone tells you that once in a while one of them doesn't turn, but they are all on now. Now fix it!

Anyway, I hope that was really the problem and not something that resulted from moving stuff around. It does make sense that a loose wire - barely touching - would shrink in the cold and lost contact.

Well my 09 just gave me trouble starting today on my way to work. It was parked since last night, got in to come to work, and it would turn over but not started. I let it sit for a second before giving it a second try, and it did start on the second try, but it took a couple of seconds longer then normal. When i got to work i turned it off and back on several times and it started perfectly normal. I hope i'm not starting to get this problem, my 09 has just over 16k on it, and two days before I changed the oil and cleaned the airfilter and all that other 15k maintanence stuff.

Yeah i thought it was weird that the OP also has a Super white tacoma, lol. This is acutally the second time it has happened to me. The first was shortly after i bought it, but I thought it may of been just because i got in to quick and didnt give the immoblizer time to recognize the key. This time was different though because even on the second try it was like the engine was reluctant to fire up.

My truck just did it to me again tonight when I hopped in it to go to they gym, didnt want to start the first time, held the key for like 6-7 seconds, didnt start. Let off for a couple of seconds, and then it started up the second try but after 4-5 seconds. Starting to get worried about my truck.

dustin81, has your truck done it to you again since the dealership supposedly fixed it?

I had a problem in my 98 taco. It turned out be be a bad ground wire, but it was never consistently wrong. I finally had trouble one time when I had it towed, and they were able to fix it. Shame I replaced the starter thinking that was the issue...
