A neighbor - who does AC installs, showed me a truckers tie-down ratchet strap he uses to skid heavy units when there isn't a helper available. The tie-down doesn't hold a lot of strap so it only takes up about two feet before it runs out of winding space. Just takes some time - but it makes things move when help isn't around - takes lots of resets. It cost 10 bucks at Home Depot, rated load is 3,300 pounds and break strength of the poly strap is 10,000 pounds - strap is 27 ft long. When I floated this for comments at work, our maintenance guy told me he had used one off our delivery truck to move our big compressor a few feet. Later in the day our fabrication foreman showed me this on his computer...its a Quickloader QL100001. It has a lever twice the length of the common truckers tie-down ratchet - and a self winding reel for the slack. Same strap specs as the truck binder model. I think I would prefer one of these instead of the wire cable come-alongs.
