Every time I go to a junkyard there are more Durango's than other cars.

Give me some feedback here guys. This is the current condition of my bumper. The car hasn't seen anything out of the ordinary as far as driving conditions goes. But the paint is practically falling right off. Sure rock chips are normal but this is just ridiculous. I emailed the shop that did the work for me and sent them photos, but they say it can't be covered under their warranty, even though it looks to me like there is absolutely no prep work on the underlying plastic.

The original paint and bumper had hardly a scratch on it and was at almost 50k miles when it was fixed. This is 12k miles later:

    What haven’t I changed?
Doesn't look like they even clear coated the paint. Do you guys get a lot of road salt up there in the winter?

Wyoming doesn't see too much salt use as far as I know. I think they use it some on city streets but it's not excessive like it is in other states.

I expected to see some good scuffing or something underneath the paint but it's smooth as butter.

had a 2002 acura rsx and had the front bumper repainted after some lady backed along the side of it. Chipper just like that in 10k miles. Took it to a different shop and the owner was like there was no prep work done under the paint so it couldnt stick well enough. 250 later her did it right and it looked brand new after 30k miles before i sold it. Also the old shop denied everything and kept my money :/

Yea sadly, good luck getting them to fix it. Try and find a better shop to right the wrong.

I have a couple friends that work in body shops here in town that said the same thing. It looked as if there was hardly any prep work done underneath.

This was his response email to my photos:

    Hello Joshua,

Thank you for the photos. Unfortunately, we cannot cover the paint damage
to the front bumper under warranty. The photos you sent, clearly depict
severe rock chipping/pitting (evident on the grain-textured incorporated
non-painted lower grille.) The expectation of longevity for any finish
under these conditions would be not be reasonable and failure cannot be
    attributed to faulty workmanship.

Since there is no cost effective repair technique to completely restore
your OE Subaru bumper, we would be more than happy to replace the front
bumper (offering the replacement bumper at our cost.) If you would like
to schedule, please give us a call and we'll get you on the books for the
    soonest available repair date.

    Thanks,

    Bill

It's been my experience that there is almost no salt used in Wyoming, I have seen Laramie spread sand behind their plows and I think I remember seeing something similar done by WYDOT years back on I-80 between Rawlins and Laramie. Seems most of the time they just plow and put up road advisories.

Yeah, OEM bumper. I went and talked to a couple body shops in town, they all said the prep work was shoddy. I got on the phone with Nationwide and they put me in contact with an adjuster. So hopefully this gets resolved.

That's sucks that it had to come to that, but good that it'll get dealt with. We did prep work on a buddy's plastic bumper cover because we were both pretty sure maaco wouldn't. Even if they did it will only adhere better now.

Yeah hopefully it gets taken care of. Both shops pretty much right off the bat knew the prep work was garbage, so it's good to have the reassurance.

We are salting in Laramie since 2 winters ago. It's mixed with the sand. One of my customers drives one of the plow/sanders in the winter.

Did it work well? Over here in Washington we don't like to salt anything, which is nice, but we do get sand, and glycol. When that syrupy mixture gets on your vehicle it is like glue.
