Tight for a lot of ppl these days. I'm guessing you really love what you do since you already know it's not high paying.

 

Yea I know. At least the amount of people making a full time living out of it is very low.

 

Nice. That is way south. Near the Az border isn't it? I have always wanted to explore more of southern Utah. The Grand Staircase-Escalante is in that area too.

 

You never know, one of my buds went to CRAS in Phoenix got a job at a theater in Tucson, started on a traveling production 6mos later, 18 mos later was mixing live sound on Broadway. Were it not for the fact he is living in the greater NYC metro would be considered to be making ridiculous money. The opportunities are out there...

 

There was a dip that the taco failed to conquor. So i upgraded some things.


Also do you guys know anything about chrome books? I need something to take with me when i travel that isnt this damn ipad. Also my 7 year old dell studio 1747 with first gen i7 took a shit (again) so i am on the hunt and found this little guy.

Just got a job offer doing live sound and some minor visual stuff as well as setup and dismantle for a series of outdoor micro concerts, unfortunately gonna have to turn it down cause it doesn't jive with my other job. So I know the opportunity is out there, you'll just have to find a way in and once they see how dedicated you are you'll move up fast. I'm not even that good and somehow after not having done any of this type of work in 3.5yrs still getting called to pitch in.

 

Yea they are there. Live sound you can make money. Studio, not so much.

Studio sound engineer is a special breed...lets mic the jcm 700 with an sm58 from 2 inches away, ok now from 4 inches away. Ok now let's re-record it with a triple rectifier and an sm57 from 6 inches away, now let's try it with with a vintage vox with this distortion pedal that's been out of production for twenty years and blah blah vintage mic. Ok after spending the last 16 hours recording this one guitar part lets turn it over to the master audio engineer so he can completely strip and remaster it with pro-tools...hope you're made of patience.

 

Hahahahahahaha..yea no. screw sm58/57. In today's world. Gotta do it right as fast as possible. M88 or tlm49 are my go to guitar cab mics.

 

5-6". Yikes. I have never seen more than 2-3" in my life from one storm.

Those would be nice, always been far out of my budget. To my greater point it seems that a lot of gifted sound engineer work is being covered up by the infinite possibility of pro-tools, cubase and whatever better software that exists now that I don't know about.

 

Sort of. There is nothing that can replace analog gear. People just don't realize it really most the time. All the top music today is still mixed on large format consoles.

It's just very hard to make people realize that it's worth paying for the use of a professional instead of their buddies cousin with pro tools.

 

For some reason everyone it rains that much back home in Florida people forget how to drive. It's like it's a new experience to them haha. It's pouring rain and they think it's fine to drive around with no headlights on

 

I miss the way it rains in Florida. Wish Wyo would get half as much as Florida.

 

I like Wyo because it doesn't rain like that. I hate it when it rains for 12-48 hours. Stupid. Short little bursts are nice.

 

Wyoming rain is brutal. Cold and hard! If the rain here felt like it did in Oregon I wouldn't mind it as much.
