So as I recall, a 241 the case is a left hand drop, and comes behind a 4500. Not completely sure on that though, as I sold my cummins for a Tacoma about three years ago

Nice. Well something to start looking for.

Hell no. If I could I'd have it right now. No I can get a full standalone ecu for my year of 5vzfe with a base map. This means no piggy backs. Our stock ecus suck to tune. Freaking horrible. The standalone would allow me full control and unleash full power potential. Very popular option in turbo mr2 builds.

Ebay turbos are cheap. If he can find a 2jz for that, he needs to buy it, but as ircl you can flip the exhaust manifolds on a 5.3, and build your own turbo setup, but I can't remember for sure if that is correct. It's been a number of years since I looked into that setup.

Lol there is no $450 2jz. Ben was confused. 450 was for a standalone ecu for my 5vzfe.

If I find a 2jz for 450..I'm buying it haha

Power just went out here. Guess it's bed time. Localized looks like. Bit windy so some PowerLine must have gone down.

I vote 2jz because of bad ass factor. But a v8 would be more "truck" usable.

The 5.3 is no joke. Lots of aftermarket. Even the 4.8 Ben is suggesting is a pretty strong motor. Even when it was in the 1500 chevys it still moved well and ran forever.

Yea i looked at the 4.8 and 5.3 more last night. Not a lot of difference between the two other than a tiny amount of power difference and slight power curve difference.

But the more i look at doing the V8 swap. The more expensive it is. So may actually, somehow, be more cost effective to do a 2jz..have to look more. Plus it'll depend on the local junk yards not being obscene with their motor prices.

Either one isn't going to be cheap really. If your looking at going big might as well go all out and get exactly what you want.

yea the biggest pro an ls swap has is the potential to break 400hp for under 2k with buying a motor and the parts to upgrade it without boost. Which lets be honest, in our trucks would be insanely fun. Then when full race truck mode comes, add a smallish turbo and boost at 6psi to get another 100-150hp easily.

Thats where the 2jz get expensive. As soon as I'd want to break 300-350hp..have to spend a LOT of money on the motor. Then the price saving of just bolting it to an r150f isn't there since i'd likely have to beef up the tranny. Though it would be good to 400hp i have no doubt as it is.

    Tough choice.

And im still not convinced you can drop in a V8 without a body lift. A kid on here is putting a 5.7 in his fully LT built taco. Im monitoring that to see how his exhaust routing goes. If it goes well. The V8 is going to be very tempting. If it does what I think it'll do..2jz it is.

i think long run the v8 will be cheaper for the power you want. Then again, how much power do you want?

Lol I know the feeling. Lets be honest, 400hp will be more than enough in the 1st gens.

I found out I am just swapping to a halfton truck for work while in denver and it has me thinking maybe i should try to scratch the go fast car itch before getting into a personal truck.

Can't hurt. i'd love a car. But really wouldn't drive it much. I like cars a lot, but i also just don't feel super comfortable in them. So low to the ground..haha granted, ive never owned one, well, one that worked for a long time.

yea 400hp would be fun no doubt. I think the torque from a V8 would be super nice

    That is also true.

Kinda my issue. I have had cars, my audi and then an old accord. And its the same thing i just prefer trucks. More comfortable to me. Now if I have a truck and a car then I can see the benefit.

That the tq from the v8 will be much more useable.

yea the low end torque would be great for climbing hill on the "smoother" dirt roads at 40mph. Be fun to do the switch back stuff with the V8.

I would literially think have to regear again to tall gears though if i ran a NV4500 tranny haha
