83 is a cool truck..but carbureted..not a good DD really. Cool collectors truck though.

As nice as the FJ80 is, I could not bring myself to pay 16K$ for a vehicle with 236K miles on it. Period.

 

Carburetors are a bitch. There is good reason why we now have fuel injection and carbs went the way of the gooney bird.

 

The the 83 is sweet for sure. Be fun to have. But not super practical. Still pretty bullet proof but the motor would just require more attention in general. Still super cool.

Exactly. Thats like a 6k truck max..thats pushing it i think too. not a ton of cool extra parts on it. But some. really high miles though.

 

Psh, I wish. I always see sweet trucks on the Boise Craigslist. If I go to Cottonwood I'll probably be driving a new vehicle before the end of summer haha.

I probably won't get into another cruiser with the way prices are rising. Awesome vehicles but I wouldn't pay more than 5k for one.

You should have! I am still fairly in the dark about the area. I was going to stay in the dog for a night when I was planning on going there during spring break. I think it's hilarious.

 

I miss that area. I think I need to go back.

 

Yeah, I know there won't be much in the town. I'll be in grangeville about 20 minute east of it. More interested in the outdoor rec there. I know the fishing and hunting is awesome. Tons of wilderness areas so hiking should be superb.

 

Sweet, if I make it out there we will have to plan a weekend trip in the area some time. I'll have 3 day weekends so I plan on seeing as much as I can in the year I am there.

I paid 2k for my 87 with 138k on it. 22r carbed.

 

Why did your '87 not have a 22RE? I'm pretty sure the '85 model year was the last one to have the non-fuel injected version of that motor.

 

Damn that 83 is clean. I love that body style.

 

83-87 had 22R option.

Also just saw a super sexy mustard yellow fully restored fj40 with roof rack and snorkel running down i80. I slowed down to ask the lady if it was for sale. Unfortunately not. Gave thumbs up, waved and carried on my way.

Wait, what??? My Taco and my FJ have a huge love affair with eachother, even though occasionally they are jealous of one another. I think it's an insecure relationship.

 

I've seen 22Rs without injection all the way up to '92, particularly in 4wd trucks and never saw a 4Runner post '85 that didn't have EFI. I've found some emissions anomalies in Toyotas throughout the years. I never could make sense of it. The most baffling were the early '90ish 2wd trucks with CA emissions and carburetors.
