Keeping on my maintenance is more important than the age and mileage.

I have to reason to expect it to fail.

 

The number of years aren't what really matters. It's the miles. It's the type of miles.

I think the good news in this is, there were lots of 1st gens produced. Even tho they are getting older, folks are hanging on to them. Parts will be available for a long, long time.

This is my approach as well. Keep up on maintenance. And I'm not talking about just oil changes.

 

No doubt.

But as you know, OEM parts are best and they aren't getting cheaper.

There are parts that wear though that are "normal" maintenance too.

They are getting cheap. There is an 01-04 here on a used car lot for 7900..TRD offroad too. haven't looked any closer so idk if the miles are high or whatever.

Still.

 

Not sure Wyo is typical. The situation is certainly different here.

 

double cabs are still over 10k easy. Even high miles ones.

 

I feel like they will continue to go up as people get tired of getting in massive debt for just a vehicle and want something cheaper and more reliable for their money.

The 1st gen double cabs are holding their value because they are more rare and more appealing to people. Mini truck size with a bigger cab.

The early tacoma's though are already in the first car for my kid realm. 2-5k We bought the 95 for 3200. Great truck too.

Be interesting to see how the market does. Can't argue they are old trucks now. 2 generations old.

The key word there is 'when'.

 

I'm not blaming that stuff on my truck. I know it was preventable..now.

But that was not the only one.

Freezer plug..please. I couldn't have helped that.

But i also think that i abuse Frank much harder then you abuse your truck. I drive him very hard...because it is fun. Which is true as Frank has the lowest mileage of all of us i think now yet spends more time in the shop then anyone else's..

thus why Igor has been getting lots of money in new OEM parts over the last year. Its my DD. I don't want it to be a garage queen. That is what Frank is for now.

This may go down as one of the craziest job searches ever. I called to decline the lander position yesterday. I felt bad because it gave them a few weeks to find a new candidate before the field season.

I get a call this morning from lander telling me not to feel bad. They were going to have to call me today to let me know that the position was cut due to lack of funding.

Dodged a bullet with that one.

 

Probably not.

Unfortunately, this job is not a straight, simple repair. Many of us have had to do this repair more than once and Toyota is partially to blame. That and inexperience by those doing the repair. I say Toyota, because they redesigned their seals for our ABS 8.0 axles. And many people end up installing the new seals incorrectly.

Timmah the tool man has a great video out now that talks about all of the pitfalls of the job. Even if you end up having someone do this repair for you, it is worth knowing this stuff before hand.

It is kinda long (1 hour) but definitely worthy.

 

Wow those are pricey little guys.

The Seattle waterfront on a gorgeous day. It's no wonder there are so many people here.

 

That's pretty neat. Living out here I never really thought much about the impact of people with drones but in a metropolitan area I could see how there could be real issues if everybody and there dog were flying them around the city.
