Mans effort to correctly show a piece of the earth on a flat map is hilarious. Each different projection can only preserve certain surface realities. Whether it's area, size or shape you can't have them all correctly shown at the same time. Can get Uber confusing. Most people's understanding of how the earth looks is bunk thanks to Mercator projection. Molwied is a better one for looking at the whole earth.

I learned a lot about projections in my last semester and how fucked all of them are . Interesting topic though. I love bringing up conversation about how different projections were used throughout history to trick people into thinking certain countries were bigger than they actually are.

In other news, I made a hammock today. About $22 in fabric and $14 in suspension. Spent an hour or so in it reading a book while ash played in a creek. Now I just need to make a dog sized version to go below mine .

Yea it's an interesting topic. It bugs me that there is no one way to show Earth's surface. I deal with that stuff every day and it's one thing I think more people should understand.

How's the hammock life when it gets cold? Thinking of using one for elk season. But if it gets cold I imagine it's tough to keep warm with all that air beneath you.

Depends on your cold tolerance. I've done well with just a sleeping pad under me back when I did it. I'll be making a under quilt that goes on the bottom of the hammock and then a oversized quilt to use inside.

I am half tempted to make a tarp with a stove jack and set the hammock low enough to be able to start/add wood through the night.

I think it's interesting in gerenal how graphs can me manipulated to show it being better then it is. And how lots of people have no idea how to read a graph really or anything with information in a visual context.

Decided to take a couple days off work and head up here for a bit. Stopped to see some family in Pinedale and then drove up to the Green River Lakes area and then back down to Daniel and over to cottonwood creek and spent the night up in the WY range. Drove down into Alpine yesterday and up through Jackson and around the Tetons and back down through Star valley into Kemmerer. We're gonna head back into the south end of the WY range this morning. Used to camp up there as a kid so its fun to come back.
