Im not sure where the reserve is, but its midway between Moose and Moran off of 191 about 2 miles if that up the FS road.

43.763756,-110.553810 Freaking awesome site, and theres a good amount of sites available without driving far.

This exact spot keeps the cars out, at the entrance, its rutted (but a spot where people go around. And then to get up to this spot its a steep climb that is dug out quite well.

Whats everyone think about camping off Bear Tooth Pass? Still snowy?

Im in the Tetons, probably going to drive through Yellowstone. Theres always a Snake River camp area thats free. My next destination is Cooke City, Beartooth Pass, Sunlight Basin Road. And if anything is awesome in that area, let me know!

Thanks for the coordinates, I passed them off to some friends who are headed that way tomorrow. They're hoping for an open site in the Park, but that is a great backup option for them.

The entrance gates said only one campground had an open spot, but that may change with it being Monday.. Maybe.

We'll probably roll out late morning so I'm guessing they won't be down before we leave, but it'll probably be open. It could be a little nerve wracking to drive to for someone who isn't about wheeling... You make this steep climb that's got alternating holes and then at the peak you have to turn left (without really being able to see).

But there's other stuff on this same road of this doesn't work out.

And the free (i think) campground near the teton np only has a few spots that are open because of a fire at some point. The family I'm sharing the spot with planned on going to that site... But they were all taken.

lol I hated Mondays in college. Today turned around though. Went up to a nice stream and planted a bunch of spruce trees.

With a shovel. They are left over from a contract we had. We used an excavator to dig most of the holes but we only had him for 3 days. So we planted about 50 spruce and 60 other riparian plants with a shovel over the past week.

This area was dredged mined real bad back in the day. The banks were left with nothing but cobble rock. Years ago they removed piles of the cobble and put a layer of soil and grass seed. All streams need riparian plants to help strengthen the banks and prevent erosion during flooding, etc.

This particular project was geared towards fish habitat. Chinook use this river for spawning. Riparian plants shade the water (lowering water temp) and provide overhead cover for chinook in hold over areas. The trees will provide shade but eventually they will contribute woody debris that will help feed aquatic inverts (fish food) and also create better fish habitat (pools, logs to hide under, shade, etc.)

Trees/riparian areas also play a huge role in water quality but I won't get into that.

    Anyone near Cody?

I'm on top of Dead Indian Mountain right now, gonna head that way.

Any suggestions for griz watching? From the safety of a vehicle. I don't plan to intentionally hike to them.

I saw a black first gen with RTT up Lulu pass last night.

Im in Powell today. Leaving tomorrow. My Dad has the FRV in Powell right now. Bright red 2nd gen with armor and RTT. Can't miss it if you see it.

Yellowstone is your best bet for griz sightings. Can see some closer to the park outside the East entrance via the north fork highway. But not often.

No way I'll head back through Yellowstone. Too many people. So I'll see them at some other point!

Nice, next stops are probably bighorn and cruise through the pryor mountains looking for the wild horses. Then I'll concentrate on the west side of Montana and maybe Idaho.

we were just at the pryors a week or two ago. Saw about 200 horses or so. Pretty up there. Lots of bugs though.

Big horns are a bit sloppy but awesome.

I sure have been harassed by bugs so far this trip so I'm getting used to it. Any particular area that's good for seeing the horses?

And any good hikes in this area of Wyoming or Montana?

The valley you start the Morrison trail in looks cool.. being right next to the river with towering mountains, anywhere like that?
