If I were going to attempt this, I would be looking at BLM land near Casper. In a lot of cases, blm land is not contiguous and you will see small patches or even a single square that is surrounded by private land. Most people won't attempt to reach these lands or think roads are private. In some cases that's true. You will need to find roads with exclusive easements. These allow the public to travel on the private roads to reach public land. There is a very good chance you could have an entire chunk of public land to yourself.

Currently packing for our river trip next week. 4 days floating some gorgeous country. Work does not suck.

 

Can any of you point me in a good direction to camp near yellowstone? I know yellowstone doesn't allow dispersed camping, we are thinking of spending the day there then heading out to camp else where. Just not sure a good place to go for the wife and I.

 

Cooke City or off the Bear tooth(NorthEast Entrance) highway is probably best up around that area or around Krandel/Sunlight Basin.

North Fork(east entrance) has camping but not really any dispersed camping.

South side by Jackson..is...well a shit show due to it being Jackson.

North entrance has some stuff too but not super familiar with that area or the West entrance.

 

Thats good to know, from google last night sounded like Jackson would be the area, but I try to avoid shit shows at all costs.

 

I mean you should try and see the tetons, they are epic. But I'd avoid Jackson. It's crazy busy right now and with the eclipse happening..I can't imagine how nuts it is.

 

We aren't leaving until September, going to spend a day in idaho then yellowstone area, then down to moab etc back up to wa.

Nice. I like the 2012 the best out of 2nd and 3rd gens. I'd be getting one if I were to upgrade BabyT. That or a 4runner.

Never mind. There was just so much dust on the camshaft pulleys it was hiding the true timing marks. It's good
