Big o guy said my rack and pinion was super loose and the bushings were bad, don't really know how since I just did those before I left Boise to come to Jackson.

Have to just have them align it anyway since I have no time left before I have to drive back tomorrow morning. At least I have another rack in Idaho I can swap in.

Would love to have had them just put a new one in but I can't do 350 in labor and 550 for the rack. That's a lot of peanuts

 

Did you actually look yourself? Poly or rubber bushings?

Places like that will try stuff like that to get more money out of you. Unless you really trust that guy.

If the rack itself has slop you've got a big issue.

no I couldn't look, I dropped it off and left for work. I'll of course check it when I get it back. I really don't know. The u bolt bushing slipped off partially before...guess it could have done it again. If the rack has slop...then I guess we go from there. I think it was leaking a bit

I don't trust it healing itself haha. I'll just assume I'm replacing the rack in my near future

70 bucks a pop for me. Wish I could get a discount for how often I go there. But they treat me great and have helped me out plenty of times. And do a stellar job.

 

Yep that's true. Have had 2 free ones. Haha

 

My wheel alignment cost me $160... 5 years ago. All 10 since then have been free.

I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of tools and do them myself.

And can do them on the weekend, in the evening, without an appointment, while drinking a beer. Excellent investment.

 

I'm not 100% sold you can do it in the shop yourself vs the laser guided system the pros use. Would be nice though. Once I have my own garage perhaps.

 

I've got 10k miles on my tires with all my own alignments and they're wearing great. No, not a precise as the fancy machines, but certainly acceptable for the purposes of our trucks.

You get better at doing the alignments yourself after doing several of them.

 

Yeah no doubt.

I'd love a setup like Marcs with heim uppers. Once you get the alignment. Don't have to mess with it
