The one tire I forgot to consider.
Durafails and going 37s.

 

Well they are a great snow tire. One of the best.

But I'm calling BS on both claims

 

Nothing wrong with BaoFengs, cheep Chinese or not. And 3800 mAh battery, that is a lot of battery. I'll bet they have some heft to them.

 

The site said about 2 days worth of use time out of the per charge...The yurt trip we go on in the winter has no electricity and we will be out for 4 days lol. Even then we will need a solar charger. Ya the weight is kind of a bummer but having communications will be a good relief on big tours

 

Nope, I went with duratracs but I did lie about the 37's. One of the best "snow" tires around and not a lot of complaints in the traction department. 35's are always 10 ply with the stronger sidewall. Plus they came out pretty darn cheap. I have had several friends, including @FreidTaco, who run them and love them. Can't beat real world results with people who live(d) in similar snow conditions. I've been mislead many times on this forum by people that think they have a harsh winter.

I found reviews on Cooper and BFG AT's were all over with how well they performed in winter. Some liked them, others said they were the worse and then some said mediocre. The lifespan of the coopers are longer but I have seen some people really stretching out the life of the duratracs with regular rotations.

Hopefully they work out and I don't regret my decision later .

 

nah i don't think you will. They aren't a bad tire at all. Should work good.

 

My old 33s i ran for 35k and sold to buddy who ran another 15k on them...
Current 35s I only have like 10k on them. I also run them on my work pickup (2500 duramax) running 95% highway i have gotten 55-60k out of past two sets

 

@FreidTaco What are you running for pressure in the Duratacs on the Taco and how often are you rotating your tires? I've got Load Range E Duratracs on my '13 Tacoma and haven't found a sweet spot for inflation yet.

 

Do the chalk test if you want the best wear.

 

I run 38-40psi but I run lots of gravel roads with these so less likely to notice funny wear. Usually rotate every 2nd or 3rd oil change (6k or 9k miles) Depends on my time availability. Now that i have a 2 post lift it will be faster and easier for both jobs.

 

Thanks - I think I'm in the low 30s, guess I need to make the time to do a chalk test and see if it would help to add a few psi.

According to the weather app on my phone, we are locked in for heavy rain for at least the next 8 days in a row. Might be longer but that is as far out as the app shows. And it doesn't say showers, it says rain which generally translates to a lot of it at high intensities. Tis the time of year.

I am guessing that'll mean serious snow for those east of us for the same time period. Don't say you weren't warned.

 

Can I dislike this? I want summer back. Or spring at least. Maybe just some daylight.

 

Hmm. Well it usually takes 2-3 days for your shit to get to me from what I've noticed.

Damn. More snow already. I have a recording session next week. 3 hours of driving a day is bad weather early in the morning and Kate at night won't be fun.
