Why do you have a front bumper for a 3rd gen 4Runner?

I think my springs settled enough it caused my camber to go in and expedite the ruining of my front tires lol. Shiiiiiit

At least my steering rack is here. Goes on with an alignment and will hopefully make the drive back to boise enjoyable for once

 

Nah the MTR's just wear bad. You do have to constantly keep it aligned or that happens.

Stupid truck

 

Was always curious if a 4bt would be good swap candidate. This guy is going all out.

Trying to just go home for the holidays and yet again the truck is fucking causing problems. Trying to replace the rack and the god damn outter tie rod lock nuts are seized together. I thing stupid fucking big o wrenched them down too tight. Any ideas?

And even more frustrating...I’m trying to add like two threads of pre load to my coil overs, I got one side but on the other when I spin the collar it’s moving the whole inner sleeve and unscrewing it from the top hat. I’m holding the bottom eye in place and the top is bolted into the bucket. How the fuck do I keep the threaded metal sleeve from spinning when I tighten the shock? Do I have to go compress the coil to turn the bucket? I didn’t on the drivers side.

Help would be really appreciated

 

Have some big pipe wrenches?

I've had good luck with them on those usually.

As for the shocks. You better tighten them back to lock the body in. Or oil be coming out.

Then make sure you undo the bolt on the retainer ring good. Spray some wd40 on the threads.

Otherwise your gonna have to rip it out.

 

Done all that. I tightened the body back every time it started to turn. I sprayed the threads, and no matter what I try to preload it more and it moves the body. How can I do this off the truck? Like how do I keep the body from moving

 

Got the ham nuts loose with bigger wrenches. Put those on the shopping list. Shock still confuses me tho

Adjusting the Kings off the truck without compressing the coils is a pain. What I've done is put two bolts into the top hat and then used them to clamp the entire shock in a table vice and then turned the adjuster ring.

Sounds like your adjuster ring is frozen to the threaded tube. Depending on how badly it is frozen, compressing the coil to remove that tension on the adjuster ring may be enough to allow the ring to move without also moving the threaded tube.

 

That’s what I was afraid of. Taking it off the truck doesent alleviate my problem. The ring isn’t frozen, it spins to decrease preload, and I got like, 1/2 a thread to show adding preload but it’s like there’s just not enough torque on the coil body to keep it from spinning with the collar.

 

Sounds like you are going to have to compress the coil. Do you still have the horsehead mask?

 

Nope. And I have no way to get a coil compressor. The auto parts stores don’t “rent” tools here

Ratchet strap method lol?

i have 2 vehicle tie down straps. any reason i couldn't fish the loose end of the straps through the springs, back to the ratchet, hook the strap hooks to each other and compress just enough to take tension off the collar.

The hooks themselves are too big to go in the coil, already tried that. but then i had the thought i can just loop the strap through the coil then put it in the ratchet and its way less sketch

 

We just tied them on. Seemed to work fine. But will be way easier off the truck.

 

Was there a 3rd strap on the back side that isn't seen in this pic? Looks like the coils get a bit marred up using this method.
