Also @Blackdawg. I need to pull the steering wheel to get the wiper stock off. I would cut the wires, but since you want the cruise it's kind of all together. So with that get me a list of parts and I will just send you the cruise stuff too

That should be an employment screening tool. "Are you a deadbeat parent who hasn't been making their child support payments?"

It's funny(sorta not really) because I've done tons of freelance work as that's kinda the gig in my line of work. So a lot of 1099 stuff. And it still really sucks. It's hard to always know what is being taken out and how much. Hard to budget what you can save, spend, or set aside.

Taxes are never fun. But important to making thing run. My only real complaint is how mis used tax dollars are.

    Oh well fuck that.

I'll make a trip down there soon and just get the full column and shit. Be easier then shipping all the BS and also more fun!

So my dad has been overhauling his electrical system. Added a second battery and a cool new charge controller. He did almost the opposite of what most do after he did his research.

He had a DieHard Platinum in the stock location as its a deep cycle AGM battery. He left that there and added a smaller lead acid battery on the passenger side. thats his new starter battery. He bought a bad ass charge controller for the deep cycle to properly charger it as they like a higher voltage to charge. Which is why his was NEVER fully charged. And also explains why mine never are either. It's also a solar controller so he can easily plug in his solar panels when he is setup at camp doing radio stuff.

Pretty cool setup and very interesting compared to how we usually do it.

I have a lot of photos and will show them when i get home.

I understand paying into social security and medicare to some degree, but matching does seem a tad much. I just don't like doing it for some waste of time employee that will never get his shit together and make poor decisions his whole life and live off the system in the end. The sucky part is that you don't know anything about them until you've hired them, and then they quit on you or you let them go after you've paid in so much on their behalf. I could talk about this all day....:der:

Hey but if you garnish wages, you get $25.00. Woohoo, Let's go to Mexico!! Not!

WY is a "Right to Work" state, and in a round about sort of way, I think they can't come after you for finding that information out. Companies all over do background checks and we can too. Not that it would be cost effective with a small biz, but I don't have to be real specific to why I don't hire a candidate.

I think the model back in college was to always set aside 15% on top of normal savings. Well that never worked for me so well but I had a backyard full of Toyotas and occasionally I would have to pick which ones to sell. :annoyed:

Lol yeah me too, you are part of a special bitching club when you are self employed. It's still worth it at the end of the day though. Your hard work pays off (usually) and is satisfying.

For me it's always been about the freedom to pursue my own destiny and deal with things that arise in all aspects of life. I couldn't live in Laramie and have a lifestyle if I hadn't done this. It just wasn't working before. Wages are too low and cost of living is 2nd highest in the state.

I feel for small business owners, the givemeit or government or whatever has f’ed things up so bad for small business’, especially those that have their profit taxed as pass through income...the downside of 1099ing though, at least on the Teton side is no one involved with operating equipment or pounding nails will show up for less than 50 bucks an hour if they have to do their own withholding, so it’s a kind of pick your poison deal. In some cases the extra outlay may be worth the hassle saved. Don’t even get me started on the current cost of health insurance...I hope everyone who voted for the AFCA meets an untimely demise.

Me personally, I'd rather pay someone the extra cash and they can be responsible for their own taxes. That's just from years of fighting the IRS over small mistakes on 941's that takes them 4 years to catch (not an exaggeration) and then back charge me interest and penalties.

There is no reason you can’t make all your employees contractors, it’s just finding people who are ok with it. Most people are intimidated by the idea and have no idea that their employer was paying 20-25% beyond their hourly wage or salary to start with. Any time I start thinking about starting a business the labor issues give me an instant migraine.

What did he do. Did he go the route of a DC to DC charger?

I have considered on of these units: https://www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-677-Automatic-Battery-Charger/dp/B005LBCVL4

2nd gens can difinitely benefit from one of these units in their dual battery systems becuase the OEM alt is a 'smart' alt. Meaning, it is designed primarily for fuel economy not fully charging AGM type batteries which respond best to 14.7 volts.

He has a bigger alt on there. Has for a long time.

and similar..but more bad ass as is the way of my dad haha

    https://www.redarc.com.au/dual-input-40a-in-vehicle-dc-battery-charger

And actually they like more than 14.7v I think is what my dad was saying. over 15v.

I've danced with the IRS enough, I'm not looking to piss them off. I just want to be left alone. I'm pretty sure it's law that regular full time employees have to be non 1099. Think the state cracks down on that due to lost revenue in the workers comp/unemployment realm that employers circumvent by doing that.

Yeah. Same concept. I was thrown off by your comment he did the opposite of what others are doing. Not so sure that is true any longer. From what I'm reading in the main dual battery thread on here, more and more guys are going this route for the same reasons. Most alts can't operate at 15 volts. And the 14.7 number is about minimum for AGM types.

The redarc stuff is aussie sourced IIRC. Expensive too. That part is so Steve.

I think this gets exploited a lot over here because excavation and construction companies can claim they’re seasonal regardless of the reality. A lot of the employees who are are classified as contractors will also use it as justification to simply not show up when they don’t feel like it, or there is say 25” of fresh powder. Either way the government has succeeded in killing my entrepreneurial spirit:boom:

I'm working on trying to be more positive about it, but I agree the rules and hoops have killed a large part of me that was once willing to go after certain jobs. It's sad, but they are creating a system that no longer rewards entrepreneurs. That and consumer demand for products and services that the US can't produce as cheaply anymore. I really think this is one of big reasons Trump was elected. Middle class was fed up with being steam rolled. The American way of life will ultimately be its own worst enemy I think. A constant cycle of power changes and the once oppressed becoming the oppressors.
