So I learned something new today. Relentless bumpers are like all-poo bumpers in that their own skids bolt up much nicer that other brand skids. Or another way of looking at it is, their bumper designed encourage the use of their skids.

This is something that I am a bit concerned about with Jerry's skids (if we ever see one). How much modification will be required to make them work with my bumper. There is no single design that mounts to all bumpers and the stock location.

 

That doesn't sound right, my stockers bolted up perfect, if anything I'd say the actual relentless ones fit worse because they needed spacers and don't make solid contact.

 

I don't think thats true. I mean Allpro bumpers mounts are no where near the same as stock mounts. Not even in the same neighborhood. The Elite and Relentless on are. I mean, im certainly not expecting a custom bumper and custom skid plate from two different designers to work 100% together. Its mostly due to the plate design anyways. To put the holes where they need to be they have to be squeezed up against that back plate.

Yeah..not sure i like that spacer thing..but oh well.

 

You mean the bolt on tow hook? I removed it, and use the recovery points on the bumper

I'm with Zane. Stock skids mount up just fine on the relentless - I ran mine while I waited for them to send up my relentless skids.

If anything, the spacers on their own skids are the weird bit, but I've gotten used to them.

 

Right but the bolts that attached the hook are super long. I couldn't reuse them with out the hook

 

This is interesting. First time I've seen something like this. The truck is a 3rd gen.

 

what is it? A skid that bolts into the tow hitch?

 

Looks like it. All the guy said was that he built it to protect his rear bumper. To keep it from dragging.

So most of us don't really need it then I guess. Kinda neat idea though, I bet it would be worth a laugh if it hang you up too

 

Fuck that. Doesn't matter if you have a big plate bumper. You'll win either way.

Camera is easy to relocate. Sensors..meh. Can't be that hard if you wanted too.

 

Yup you can relocate all that garbage if you don't just decide to rip it out. Glad none of my beaters have that junk in there.

 

I got to drive Mark's new turd the other day. Waaaayyyyy too much electronic crap on it. Under normal driving conditions it is always beeping at you for something. Shit would drive me crazy. Too many distractions.

 

I'm confused. What do those bolts/that hook have to do with your skid install?

I replaced those when I installed the bumper, because it mounts to the same location (I think, unless the tow hook was on the cross-member, but I don't see holes for it there). Used some shorter bolts (I guess) that Eric gave me.

I'll just have to go get some bolts I guess. The stock bolts that hold the big tow hook on a long because the hook like like 1''+ thick. Can't use those bolts without the hook so I put the hook in but it hits the bumper so had to flip it backwards. Now that its backwards, it hits the skid.




At Tippet we got a new Suburban. I would drive that. The V8 is awesome and becomes a V4 when you don't need the power. Super roomy and comfy.

 

Ahh, got it. Might just be easier to cut the hook off and use the back part as a spacer for the longer bolts.

...hook isn't a cheap part though, if you ever want to re-use it. Just not sure about your access to metric bolts nearby...

 

In addition to all those things...

It beeps when you get close to a lane marker
It beeps when when it thinks your speed difference between your vehicle and the one in front of you is to great
It beeps when a vehicle comes up on your blindspot

I am sure there are more but I had to get out of the thing before I found them.

Tesla has none of that crap. And thankfully the corolla doesn't either.

 

Have an ACE loccally that if im good closes right when I get home. They are chill though and let me grab stuff. But they don't have the best selection.

 

I wonder if all of that is configurable on both the Tacoma and the Tesla...

I would hope that it is because I agree that would be super annoying! I know on the model 3 Tesla is it is configurable in the settings when you get alarms and there are alarms for most of the things you mentioned.

and I don't care what you say , all of the display goup in a Tesla is definitely electronic distractions even if it doesn't make a noise.

Nice. My Ace always has that kind of stuff - they have a great selection of bolts, unlike the box stores. And, I guess you could get by with a bunch of washer spacers for a while if they don't have the bolt size you need.
