    hmm.

Not likely that. If that's not working it'll just let oil pool up on the valve cover.

Electric fans are loud as fuck. They also tend to present problems, every guy I've know that put them on hated them. The thermostat's seem to be finicky. Its also really hard to find a good shroud for the e fans for our trucks as its not a super popular thing to do. The mechanical one is much more reliable and bullet proof. After you watch that video you'll see why its works well and won't ever really let you down. The worst that can happen is the fluid goes bad or the valve locks up and either your fan is just stuck on all the time(not gonna hurt anything) or just partially on(not good but will get you home). You CAN swap out the fluid yourself, bit a PITA but it is doable and once done will last a long ass time again.

yeah its stupid cheap to replace. Granted, doesn't take that long to replace the fluid, just kind of messy.

There was an awd AMC eagle here for sale a little while ago for 2k I think. Thought about picking it up just to throw bigger tires on and go play in the desert. Think it would be a fun cruiser too.

Take the alternator belt off and see if you get any play out of the pulley. Can try engaging and disengaging the A/C and see if it’s the bearing on that

Ah, I would agree with Inbone, sounds like a bearing.

Cooler temps should cause the bearing to shrink slightly and as it gets warm it will expand and not be as loose.

If it was the thermostat you should have no flow through it until it warms up. Stays closed until the pressure from the heated water expands and opens it.

Its not the AC idler bearing right?

I dunno if thats already been talked about of not, and I'm sure you've already checked that.

A cheap way to check a specific bearing is with a 1/4 inch dowel, cut to whatever length is appropriate. Put one end on the bearing (or almost anywhere on the alternator) and the other end on bone near the front of your ear. BE CAREFUL!! If the bearing is bad you'll know it quickly. Try an electric motor to get an idea of what a presumably good bearing sound like.

Honestly could just start it with the belt off for a min and see if you can replicate the noise. If no noise you found the culprit
