It appears as tho you are trying to make a point about something but it is unclear what that has to do with me.

Strap on the hitch ball?

 

It's your safety.

Takes a second to pull the hitch out, slide the strap in the receiver, and put the pin back through.

 

Ever seen someone hurt by a ball that was in the cab of the truck?

I'm curious, what are you worried will happen hooking it on the ball? Yes, I would have puled the receiver to, but more because I would be worried the strap would come off the ball. That however wouldn't really be a safety issue, more of an annoyance. What is the safety issue that I'm not seeing?

 

Valid point, but that shouldn't be an excuse for strapping to a ball.

Those balls can break and then become a projectile. You can read a lot of stories of people being hurt of killed by doing that.

 

I guess maybe if you jerk on it real, real hard, but those balls take a lot of abuse pulling heavy trailers and don't break. I've seen trucks that were in front end collisions that were pulling trailers and the ball didn't break. Not saying it couldn't happen, just don't see it happening very easy.

 

Jerking is the key. They are fine for heavy loads like a trailer as there isn't any sudden high stress put on it like if you were jerking.

 

When you are pulling a trailer every time you start, stop, and hit bumps there is some pretty good stress on it, but yea, if you are jerking the hell out of it pulling someone out, it could go. But then again if you are jerking the hell out of it, something, somewhere is going to break. I've pulled lots of guys out over the years, and some were in pretty nasty places. I never jerk, that just breaks things and gets people hurt. I don't care what kind of fancy dynamic snatch strap you have, jerking is dangerous. First use your shovel to make things easier, then just steady pressure.

 

After a turkey day trip in the redhead, found a small puddle of gear oil dripping off the front skid. Closer inspection showed it to be coming from the front diff. It looked like the driver side axle seal was leaking pretty good.

As with any work on her these days, it starts with cleaning off the mud.

Yup. I think the durometer is to soft on those.

 

Not the first photo I've seen of them splitting or taking damage. Thinking my superbumps might stay on..
