Yeah maxing the caster with the lcas is not being nice to your bushings. This is one thing that I think the solo lcas will help with for me.

 

OK, this took a while because I was "working" today and totally forgot to snap these earlier. You can ignore the oil everywhere; totally normal, hahahahaha.

Huh your driver side looks maxed but not the passenger side. I'd guess your driver side bushings won't last too much longer.

 

OK, for reasons... I am buying a CVJ axle.

There are two options I'm considering -

1. 9804 - this is the "cheapest" option ($120) - "better than new aftermarket" - so, better than something I'd get at Napa.
   
2. 9804T - this is the "like OEM" option. ($195) Essentially, better boots than 9804 - the same boots you'd get in the re-boot kit from Toyota (for $40)

Having gone through re-booting the CVs recently, I feel very comfortable doing that and so am leaning towards the 9804 variant, and will just replace the boots if/when they fail.

Am I missing anything?

 

Is the part number without the "T", not a rebuilt OEM axle?

Ok then go with the cheaper OEM boot option. IMO, their fancy orange/red special boots are not worth the extra $$.

 

Yeah, I know that. Wasn't even considering their more expensive colored boots. Of the two options I posted, why not get the $118 option and be willing to re-boot later?

Don't know (I doubt it) and don't really care. i like the idea of running OEM axles. I know there are arguments not too, and respect those.

 

If I were to guess, I'd say cores are getting harder to find. Even CVJ's core charge is up by $20 from what it was when I got some of their CVs.

My guess is the 4runner needs new ones too.

Or wants just a trail spare.

I know he needs to make a coilover tool like mine and crank his coils down a lot.

 

I get it. And makes sense. I wouldn't expect the neoprene to be very durable tho.

I've sent them email to see if the CV itself is lower quality; that'll make my decision likely, since you all have been no help at all. Basically ignoring my question and just asking your own. hahahahaha, you all Internet well.

 

I have never torn my original axle boots. Yeah, I would say the OEM ones have proven to be very durable. Assuming their replacement kit contains boots with an identical design and rubber compound, they are the way to go.

 

I'd have said the same, except that I tore both of mine recently. Granted, 20 years old...no complaints.

Plus, re-booting them was stressful on the first one, but pleasantly enjoyable on the second since I was more confident!

And what exactly was your original question? The are reman oems so they are tough. I'd just get the cheap boot one and if/when it tears use an oem kit.

 

IMO age has little to do with it. It's all about what they are subjected to.
